Zoticus Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 When a priest takes the vow of celibacy, what does it take to break it, besides the obvious one of sex. Is lusting, or masturbation, actually breaking their vow? I know this is a bit ackqward but I was somewhat wonderded what was the standards. Thanks in advance.
BLAZEr Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Sex, lust, fantasy, and masturbation are all sins against chastity. A priest's vow isn't like some contract that if he breaks is void, rather their vow is a promise to God to live according to the way Christ lived. This means that a priest must try very hard to resist all of these temptations against Chastity and seek go to Confession if he ever succumbs to them.
