Ziggamafu
Do you know of any web links that have indexes of everything officially approved by the Church? I remember running into a list of movies that the Church gave high regards to...it got me wondering if there are lists for books, sacramentals, musicians, etc. Also, what are all the "big books" used by the Church? As far as I know, there's the Bible, the Catechism, the Code of Canon Law, the Liturgy of the Hours (and its younger brother, Christian Prayer), The GIRM...uh...am I forgetting any? BLAZEr
You could add the Sacramentary to that list of books, it contains the GIRM. As far as a list of "approved" things, I don't know of any and I would be wary to trust any too. You have to remember that any list is subjective to the person who put it together. The Church teaches us that we have the responsibility to form our Conscience according to the true and Orthodox teachings of the Church (use the Catechism and Bible for this) and then we can use our Prudence to decide what we should and should not partake in. A shortcut list won't get you into heaven . . . getting to heaven isn't just about avoiding evil . . . it's about doing good too . . . do the hard work of training yourself to have a well formed conscience.
