Mickey's_Girl
I've been reading up on Patron Saints, and it looks like sometime in the 1960s there was a sort of revision of the list of saints. Can you tell me what this was all about? And are the "old" saints no longer accepted? MG
Pio Nono
JMJ 7/10 - Fourteenth Saturday Mickey's_Girl, Though I don't know of a specific date (I'm sure someone on here knows the date, though), the liturgical calendar for the Roman Rite changed sometime in the late 60s or early 70s. The saints who were left off of the calendar are not "uncanonized" - it is just that the history of their lives is more legend than knowable fact. For instance, some saints (like St. Christopher, St. Cloud, St. Expedite, &c.) lack real records of life, or a knowable burial site, or other things. Take St. Christopher - his legend is that he carried Christ across a river; "Christopher" is Greek for "Christ-bearer" or something similar in meaning. Does this mean that St. Christopher never existed? Of course not - it just means that we don't know much about him, and as a result a publicly-endorsed cult might not be the best avenue. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
