But my question is, in the long run, isn’t it better for the Church that people who no longer practice or accept Her teachings not claim to be Catholic? I’m not at all saying it’s a good thing that people are renouncing the faith, but does this not eliminate occasions of scandal and confusion in the Church? In a way, is it better to have fewer Catholics who are more faithful to the Church than many lukewarm Catholics? Any thoughts? In any case the picture on this article makes me want to make reparations to the Sacred Heart.
Anomaly
Read the article. In effect it is pointing out the lazy manipulation of the masses by supposed “elites”. Instead of making lucid and reasonable philosophical arguments about IVF or abortion, Poland restricts it because it’s the Catholic rule. It’s why abortion is legal in America. It’s never about personhood vs rights. It’s about whether it’s a soul or not.

In any case the picture on this article makes me want to make reparations to the Sacred Heart. I haven't had time to weigh in but have been meaning to, as I know a number of people from Poland. I think there will still be lukewarm Catholics that will continue to remain in the Church at least on paper and won't declare apostasy. Modernism in the Church and secularism in Polish culture had already infected society there for some time now, so I think a lot of scandal and confusion will still remain. The apostate sentiment was already festering, they are now just more open and formal about it. There are others that are just too indifferent about religion to bother. That’s not to say that corruption and abuse of power from clergy and politicians haven’t had a hand in it, because that’s been a problem there as well. Abuse and scandal in the Church were often kept under wraps because after years of communist rule and having opponents and clergy falsely accused and smeared by the communists, the natural response would be to want to give clergy or certain politicians the benefit of the doubt and for scandals to be kept secret or dismissed. The demonic has managed to make a dog’s dinner of everything. By all means, acts of reparations to the Sacred Heart are certainly needed.

It was never proposed as a law. It was never debated by elected officials. It was never approved by both houses of Congress and the president of the United States. That's why we're still wrangling about it lo, these 44 years later - because it's bad law, because it was never passed as a law.
