Guest
Thanks Ash, I didn't realize that the 19th was a Friday in Lent until your post. The Feast of St Joseph is a Solemnity. Canon Law http://www.vatican.va/archive/cod-iuris-canonici/eng/documents/cic_lib4-cann1244-1253_en.html Can. 1251 Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. We can eat meat on the Solemnity of St Joseph according to Canon Law. Anastasia
I do not find it funny. I find it to be a bad taste. Firstly, I think, because of it is an icon, not some pic of St Joseph. You do not put some silly text over a holy image. Second, because it is somewhat disrespectful to attribute to Saint Joseph words like that. Interestingly, it is precisely the fact that the icon was used here brings the above to the light. Icons often reveal hidden things, even when they are abused. This was only used by Jews that were too poor to afford a larger sacrifice, and reminds us that the Holy Family was not rich in money.
