toledo_jesus
Is it just me, or are young people a heck of a lot more conservative in their religious beliefs than their parents? Specifically Catholics, I mean. I have noticed A LOT of conflict between us and the the older generation who patronize us and call us naive for our wish to adhere to what the Church teaches. I can see a very tangible undercurrent of orthodoxy running through the youth today...It gives me hope. How about you guys? Let's toot our own horn here. What makes us different from our parents on this issue? I know that nothing really taught me to seek right teaching...it was just a need that was there. Holy Spirit at work do you suppose? Iacobus
I see conseractiveness in Church and an orthodoxy growing. But polticly I see a new wave of Catholism of both parties. As S. Blaze said "I am 60% Dem and 40% GOP and that makes me Catholic." I see youth who take the faith beyond the Church and into all aspects of their lives. Cesar624
I SO COMPLETELY AGREE! I'm only 17 years old, and I'm the most religious person in the house. I am as orthodox as I can personally be with Catholicism and my parents look at me like I'm crazy. My opinions on certain things mirror those of a very mature person compared to many of those of my parents'. I think today's youth is becoming more and more attracted to God and spirituality in general. May all those who have this desire find their ways to the Church. Andrea348
Let us pray that even more young people possess Orthodox views. We can never have too many Orthodox people!

Archbishop 10-K
I'm 16 and the only Catholic in my family. I go so far as to actually condemn abortion *gasp*, contraception *double gasp*, and dissent from Rome *triple gasp*.

homeschoolmom
You know, I was thinking about this at mass tonight. Actually, I was thinking about it earlier today and remembered it again tonight. There were a lot of teens at mass tonight who are preparing for a mission trip next week. It is so wonderful to see this. I wondered if maybe many of their parents were poorly educated in the faith... and now there is so much more opportunity for better education... more than "merely" going to mass. Thy Geekdom Come
Well, I think it's because people in our generation felt first-hand all the failures of the "do what you feel...be your kid's friend...truth is relative" lifestyle. I mean, come on...my responce is that those philosophies are "selfish...irresponsible...contradictory." I think we, more than other generations, want to follow the "do what God feels...be your parents' kid...truth is absolute" philosophy. If not more attractive, it's at least more honest. Meanwhile, I also think this happens in cycles. Kids pick up their parents' mannerisms, but they often reject with a reverse-polarized force their parents' beliefs. Thus, our kids could end up being just as bad as the parents of the 80's! I see the kids of parents who are responsible, and they are often the troublemakers...it's not good... Guest JeffCR07
I completely agree with you guys. I think there is a new wave of orthodoxy in us youth (I'm 18) but there are some things we should remember: To those who are given much, much will be expected. Faith may be growing in the youth, but we must not simply jump up and down, glorifying in our faith. I believe that the Spirit is moving in us, and that means that there is something of importance that we have to do. There is so much death in our culture, and sin everywhere, it is our responsibility to strengthen the faithful and the Church, to support our priests, and even to bring them back to orthodoxy when need be. We can win this fight, because it isn't really us who is fighting, it is Christ who lives in us. As long as we remain open to him, as long as we do not allow our faith to waver, and as long as we surround ourselves with other Faithful, we cannot lose . - Your Brother in Christ, Jeff
