correction: can't call it abuse unless they do it after october, because it was allowed up until now under that trial run basis thing.
THey never had any written permission from anybody to change the rubrics of the Mass. Never.

ya i understand that...but would it still be bad if we just all sat with eachother in the front or is that still cutting off the rest of the church

Its nice to be part of a special group and sit up front, but on the other hand, think of how awesome it would be to just be part of the congregation and be an example of holy reverence to the entire Church.

Are you sure of that? I'm pretty sure the bishop of the diocese would have enough authority to make a change like that (in his diocese).

Anyways. I sometimes bring youth to the Lifeteen Mass in my diocese and I see the gathering on the altar and it is largely a distraction, and it isn't really reverent for most of them. I am glad the changes have come. For one thing, I think there might be a danger of young people deciding that the Lifeteen ending & altar gather made that mass 'better' than other masses.

The reality is that I could go to a mass where it was just me and the priest, and the priest could be the worst of sinners and not even speak a language that I could comprehend, and the Holy Spirit himself would still join that moment to the moment of Christ's sacrifice on the cross, and it would be that sacrifice in which I was partaking. Sometimes I think the truth of the universality of the mass gets lost in a modification like that.

End of rant.

Cheers & God Bless,

Dave :)

P.s. I would like a link to an official statement on this when one becomes availiable.

A bishop does not have permission to change the rubrics of the Mass.
i completely understand how the going to the alter can offen people (i mean it offends my dad, i just found out lol) but would it still be wrong of in the front of church all the teens go into the front pews and sit there... or does that also distract or seperate us from the rest of the congregations... imean we wont be possesive... just like we all sit there

one of the churches i visit has a youth mass (not fullfledged lifeteen either) and they do this. Personally, i don't think having a few pews for teens would be bad as long as they're not going to be disrespectful and goof off and distract other people. It seemed to work pretty well with the kids at the mass i went to. I see it as a possible alternative to the alter gathering.

BTW, I know it's been said, but i WANNA LINK! As soon as someone finds it, post it ASAP. I want to show it to the pastor and the youth minister,

You could ask them what official Church document gives them permission to change the Mass :)

if this was directed at me cmom, how does this change the mass? unless if you're seeing something I'm not seeing, i don't see how it directly changes anything in the context of the mass. it's still done within the same rubrics of how the mass is celebrated, the kids are a part of the congregation regardless if they're in the front pew or sitting with their families. Unless if it becomes a distraction to others in the congregation, i don't see how it can be an abuse. Can someone enlighten me otherwise?
