What do I need to do (step by step) if I want to reach Roman Catholic Baptism as an adult by atoning for this sin of mine mentioned below?

And I did not want to refer to anything wrong when I used the terms "human-centred" and "mystique." I wanted to use them in the same way you both wrote it. And I will really pay much more attention to using the right terms as a novice believer, your help means very much to me.

Nothing wrong in the terms you used, Bluesky.  I was not sure at all I was responding to your terms, your definition of them.   We all make mistakes and no drama.  I think all of us will be novices until the end of our journey, always learning.

For a relatively new Catholic, I admire you.  :like:

I hold the view that the best is to learn from holy people. It is very important in the beginning to acquire "a good taste" or "a good sense" of what is true so in the future you would not be seduced by half-truth of problematic spirituality which pretends to be Christian. This is why in my Church insists on reading the Church Fathers (theologians of the ancient Church) so much, and also the lives of the Saints and ascetics.

Since you mentioned that you are interested in learning about a prayer I recommend you this book

Inner Step Toward God: Writings and Teachings on Prayer, Fr Alexander Men

It is Eastern Orthodox though. The author is a new martyr who brought to the Church thousands people (including me).  Fr Alexander was totally Christ-centered and not just that - being around him people would grasp the reality of Christ. He also was very open to the Roman Catholic Church.

There is also the website in English with some of his works translated (fragments).

He was a very traditional priest (not “a traditionalist” but traditional) yet very modern, a mixture of eternity and modernity. I think this can be said about anyone who is Christ-centered.

In the Orthodoxy we speak much about the Holy Spirit, how the conversion happens via a touch of the Holy Spirit experienced in the other person, sometimes via a book or an icon.

I will try to answer your questions, but I think it is very important that you make contact (phone) with your Catholic parish.  The questions you are asking are the type of things best dealt with in spiritual direction by a spiritual director.

Hello again @Bluesky - I do again urge you to make contact with a Catholic priest.   Perhaps you could contact the priest where you have attended Mass.

Cheers..........Barb

Phewww! I am really glad you have made contact with a priest.  I think you were doing really well and needed guidance about your way forward.  And now you have that expert guidance!  Deo Gratius. Laudate Dominum.

Please do keep us informed on how things are going - and don't second guess any advice from Father.  He has the Grace and expertise to be your spiritual guide.  The internet can be a really great resource, it can also be a source of confusion for various reasons.

May The Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen you.

Best regards and prayer for your daughter, you and your family...............Barb

In Catholic Teaching, you need to know something is a sin in order to commit sin.

This is incorrect.  Ignorance does make a mortal sin venial (insufficient knowledge), but it doesn't negate the sin itself.  Without being able to read her soul, the best we can say is that there was a sin committed, but it's likely not a mortal sin.

If there is any sin, @Bluesky, it was not serious sin.  Your best move is to ask Father when you are talking to him.   Sins that are not serious (serious is what Catholic Theology calls "grave matter") are called venial sins and can be forgiven in many ways including some random act of charity to your neighbour, perhaps even a donation to a charity.  As I said, forgiven in very many ways.  Please do not burden your conscience losing Peace of Soul and bring the subject up with Father.  Catholic moral theology can be very confusing - most especially perhaps for 'new' Catholics.  Even we long term Catholics can be confused by it.

The reason I urged you to speak with a priest is because I thought there MIGHT be a risk of your thread developing into a debate and be a source of confusion for you.  I am trying to avoid debate.

You are on a safe path, be confident of that - especially because you decided to speak with a priest and have done so.  That was a movement of The Holy Spirit guiding you.  Be guided by Father.

God bless - prayers as always and please keep us all in yours........warm regards........Barb
