Credo in Deum

Hello Pham,

I'm on a journey back to God and I wanted to ask what are some hobbies that you do as part of you recreation time?  I'm sure there are plenty of hobbie sites but I figured I would also ask for some inspiration from the you all.

Thank you

PAX

My main hobbies are dancing, target shooting, photography, lifting weights. I also like to play card games, roll the dice, etc.

Would like to pick up scuba / water sports, public speaking (Toastmasters), an active sport like squash. Have also thought to pick up something like bowling, billiards for fun.

Some kind of woodworking would also be cool. Create something with my hands.

I recently bought a bicycle and began cycling, after a long break. This is great, as a mean of discovery of the new landscapes and "switching off" a mind.

Ash Wednesday

I'm an artist. So that is pretty much life-engulfing. But I also like to cook and be in the outdoors. Love history and love to travel, or did once upon a time before the pandemic. :(

I play baritone. I used to play trombone but a bad shoulder meant a switch from slide to valves. I take lessons that went online with Covid. I hope to join a band when that’s allowed again.
I also volunteer with the Army Cadets. That’s kind of like JROTC in the states but bigger and better supported. I keep them in their uniforms. With 4-5 dozen 12-19 year olds, that is a constant battle. I spent today sewing new stripes on tunics. We are now allowed at the armoury in person for the first time in 8 months. No one’s uniform fit and everyone had gotten promoted due to time in grade or doing their courses online.

Frankly, I am not sure what "hobby" is. I become interested in different things, some hold my interest for long, some not. For example, I became very interested in moths after I picked one in front of my door (it looked dead) and cared for it during the day and then released it. After that very personal experience I began learning about moths and butterflies and now have a log (of identification) on my computer. Recently I reached the point when I Googled "moths are cuter than butterflies" (my personal conviction) and, to my surprise, I found various discussions about that topic online. Is it a hobby? I am not sure. I just like seeing those creatures. Moths are incredibly cute.

Also, I can easy picture Christ painting those moths and butterflies. Although I do not reject the theory of evolution I am sure only artistic drive can explain moths and butterflies.

Here. Sorry, I cannot resist sharing the text from Internet:

CMV: Moths are much cuter than butterflies.

The average moth are cuter than the average butterfly. They are fuzzy/fluffy, they have big cute eyes, and their antenna are cool and not creepy. Butterflies have uglier, weird faces. Their mouth that curls up under their face is unappealing, and they aren’t fuzzy.

Moths basically look like big bees, whereas butterflies look like an actual fly with beautiful wings. Yes, butterflies are much more beautiful than moths, but cute? No chance.

To change my few, you’ll have to present many pictures of ugly moths compared to super cute butterflies, but I’ve done my research and it’ll be hard to do.

I love chess. I’ve played seriously my whole life. I played competitively when I was little but I didn’t like doing that at all because although I like to win like anyone else I’m not at all a competitive person and it stresses me out. My interest in the game is nearly entirely in studying it now.

I love to work outside. I haven’t got a green thumb but I love hauling fallen trees around and digging holes and carrying wood. Solitary, quiet, contemplative work.

I also like to study languages. I’m a classics major but in my free time I’ve taken up a few modern languages. I’m not very good at it because I can’t just pick one and stick with it.  I know a smattering of a whole bunch of languages but nothing meaningful or profound from any of them. I mean, I can recite several poems in Russian and I know every conjugation in Serbian and a ton of Breton vocabulary, but I can’t communicate in any of those languages. This can be actually a frustrating hobby and I don’t know why I keep trying to pick up new languages when I’m just going to drop them for something else.

100% agreed. As I read your comment I was going to say that moths have the faces of little bumblebees and a unique ethereal quality about them, too.
