homeschoolmom
Long story short... When RussianGirl started looking into Catholicism, hsDad and I would go with her to RCIA (mostly to learn what she was learning so we could counter it, partly out of curiosity)... we didn't really like the priest who did them because, well... he didn't seem very charitable to Protestants. Well, then she decided to reconcile and we started on the height of our anti-Catholicism... The summit of which hit in the late summer last year. RussianGirl had to go back to Russia and we thought we would not have to think about Catholicism for awhile... The day she left for Russia, I was in the hospital after having hsbaby... I'm resting, trying to watch a little TV... I'm flipping around... and I think, "Holy carp!! I know that voice!!" I flip back a few stations and low and behold, there's the SAME PRIEST doing RCIA on television!!! So, I watch for awhile but flip in disgust... It's like "Okay, God, I get the picture!" We still didn't start RCIA until five months after that... On Easter morning, I received communion from that very priest... (We didn't go to RCIA at that parish, though...) Sojourner
For me, worship was one of the things that really flipped the switch. I was in a Bible study, and one of the leaders (Protestant) grew up Catholic and really appreciated the idea of Mass, even though he's nowhere close to returning to the Church. So I decided to research and prove to him that we don't need services that are all the same, we can be innovative and creative because God is creative. I did all kinds of study on worship, read all sorts of stuff, and ended up reading Scott Hahn's "The Lamb's Supper" on a friend's recommendation. After I read that, and compared the strong biblical basis for EVERYTHING WE DO IN MASS to the "oh, well this seems like it could be worshipful" attitude towards worship I found in Protestant writings. But yeah, once I started thinking about the church, I couldn't get it out of my head for long.
