This would be disastrous as there is a senatorial special election in one state - I forget which - in which immediately following the results, not in January, the winner will step right in. So the GOP could lose a Senate seat in November which could cost them the confirmation. To lose that opportunity to confirm the SC pick would be stupid beyond all measure.

Arizona. Interesting. Yeah I think you raise a good point, but I think they are going to have the votes regardless. But yeah I guess that is a good enough reason to try to get the nominee through before the election. It will be interesting to see how they play it. I think Barbara Lagoa is the choice, myself, if we are playing the odds.

If this is a reply to me, I believe I have been clear that I do not wish to publicly pursue the disagreement. If it is not forgive me for my presumption.

We haven't even had a disagreement and you are already bowing out?

Do you feel any kind of political reconciliation is possible or that civil war is inevitable?

We disagree on 1) whether or not Trump is objectively worse than the men who preceded him and the man he is running against. 2) whether or not it is appropriate and useful for us as Christians to make that disagreement larger and clearer by publicly parsing its nature when unbelievers might see one or both of us at our worse and decide that if the household and family of God is so divided on both doctrinal and mundane points they would do better to not make inquiry about who this Christ working in us is.

As to the second question, there is no reconciliation, while we are still in the body, that I seek or desire with people who cannot look at Donald Trump and see that he is a proto-nazi who is a clear and immediate danger to the lives and freedom of black and brown people in this country and to the very continuance of liberal democracy in the United States. But I do believe the Holy Spirit dwells in and among the society of the baptized and that the bloodshed, wrenching apart, racism, rebellion, and hatred we are already seeing the first fruits of can be avoided either by God's miraculous intervention in the affairs of men, or by us ceasing our dissensions with one another and throwing our burdens onto the Lord Jesus who is known to be a burden bearer and a heavy load carrier.

Didn’t you do some time in county?

Despite my atheism, stopping the killing of inconvenient people is one of my most important issues.   My vote for Trump is solid only for his SC pick.   I may not vote if he gets a good replacement.

Both parties fail at identifying pre-born as persons with rights too.

It is my fervent prayer that we accidentally meet in a bar IRL and without knowing the phatmass connection, we have a beer and discuss atheism

Preliminary reports are indicating that the likely nominee will be Amy Coney Barrett. Reports can be wrong -- either way, God help this woman if so.

If you’re ever in Tampa, I’d buy the beer and we can discuss philosophy in a friendly manner....

Considering the precedent Obama began and Trump continued with pen-and-phone executive order legislation, I think it would be silly to suppose Biden wouldn't continue this trend and specifically use his pen on the topic of abortions.

Jaime and I actually did have a beer together and it was quite enjoyable. I like him a lot and wish we were neighbors.

Lol.   If it’s a for a chill convo, sure.   It’s always worth a free beer to find out.
