Hope Joan-Therese
As a name aficionado I'm curious to know your favourites- bonus points if they are saint's names. I'm pretty sure most people have a list tucked away somewhere!
LittleWaySoul
I’m a sucker for old saint names that probably no one would agree to Example: Athanasius. You can call him Nate to make it more normal!! But so many people disagree with me, hah. But I also love normal classic ones like John, Gregory, Adam, Peter, Thérèse, Anna, Chiara, Josephine. There are so many lovely saint names!! Lilllabettt
9 hours ago, Lea said: What makes a name a 'catholic name'? I believe in the title of this thread, the adjective Catholic is meant to pertain to baby not "name." As in, you have a catholic baby. What do you name him or her? Any name given to a Catholic baby becomes a Catholic baby's name. But what are your favorites? I believe the church law says something like the name cannot be " unsuitable" or offensive to Christian sensibility eg Lucifer. At the same time there are names that are definitely "Catholic names". Immaculata, for example. Or, Jesus, as a given name, is almost entirely rooted in Catholic (hispanic) tradition.
Lilllabettt
My favorites currently are: Beatrice (Bea) Cecilia (Celia) Genevieve (Evie, rhymes with stevie) Juniper (Junie) Louisa (Lulu) Philippa (Pippa) Primrose (Prim) Albert (Bertie) Aloysius (Wish) Ambrose (Bo) Augustine (Gus) Ferdinand (Andy) Frederick (Fitz) Maximilian (Max) Leopold (Leo)

I was referring to names which either have Biblical associations, were the names of famous Catholics, popes, saints, places like Lourdes ect, or just make some allusion to Catholicism in general eg. Rosemary (rosary, Mary), Stella (Stella Maris), Siena/Sienna (Catherine of Siena). That being said, while I think those sorts of names are great, one doesn't necessarily have to use them, and there's no reason why someone's kid couldn't turn out to be the first St Everly haha
Nihil Obstat
My group of friends now has a Malachy, a Fulton, a Gemma, and a Joseph Athanasius. If Yvette had been a boy we were going to use Marcellinus, although if we have a boy in the future I think we are leaning towards Leo Hyacinthe instead. If we have another girl someday we might use Eleanor Perpetua. We named our two (known) early miscarriages Francis and Raphael, due to the feast days when the miscarriages occurred.
