mine actually chose me...sometimes that happens where they choose you before you know them. St. Philomena had been on my heart for quite some time when I didn't even know who she was and it wasn't until i looked her up that I knew she was praying for me because she prays for children of Mary...before i learned about St. Philomena I had lost my mother when I was 13 to cancer. When I was about 20 I had "adopted" Mary as my mother. I only learned about St. Philomena a year later.

sometimes you'll start to hear about a certain Saint alot...maybe three times in one week and that could be a sign to learn more about that Saint. another way is to look at the day you were born, who's feast day was it? You can also look at your special intentions and which saints have a particular patron of that intention. You can also just research a bunch of saints and choose the one who most inspires you...

hope that helps...

I've never been able to settle down much to just one. I pray to St. Joseph a lot, St. Thomas More and St. Dymphna as well and Blessed Mother Theresa. For me, these saints represent something I need. Protection (St. Joseph) Integrity (St. Thomas More) or help and compassion for others. Its really strange how once you develop a relationship with the St.s you really feel like you know them. Its hard to explain, but its real.

peace...

I chose St. Ignatius of Antioch (d. 107 AD) as my patron saint because his writings were pivotal in leading me down the path of my conversion to Catholicism. His incarnational theology sees both the Church and the sacraments as the perpetual extension of the incarnate Christ throughout time. Here is a selection of quotations from his seven letters:

St. Ignatius to the Ephesians
". . . show obedience with undivided mind to the bishop and the presbytery, and . . . break the same Bread, which is the medicine of immortality, the antidote against death, and everlasting life in Jesus Christ." [Ephesians 20::2]

St. Ignatius to the Romans
"God's wheat I am, and by the teeth of wild beasts I am to be ground that I may prove Christ's pure bread." [Romans 4:1]

St. Ignatius to the Ephesians
"Persevere to the end in your faith in, and your love for, Jesus Christ. Here is the beginning and the end of life: faith is the beginning, the end is love, and when the two blend perfectly with each other, they are God." [Ephesians 14:1]

St. Ignatius to the Philadelphians
"Do not be deceived, my brethren: if a man runs after a schismatic, he will not inherit the Kingdom of God; if a man chooses to be a dissenter, he severs all connection with the Passion." [Philadelphians 3:3]

St. Ignatius to the Ephesians
"There is only one Physician, both carnal and spiritual, born and unborn, God become man, true life in death; sprung both from Mary and from God, first subject to suffering and then incapable of it -- Jesus Christ our Lord." [Ephesians 7:2]

St. Ignatius to the Smyrnaeans
"You must all follow the lead of the bishop, as Jesus Christ followed that of the Father; follow the presbytery as you would the Apostles; reverence the deacons as you would God's commandment. Let no one do anything touching the Church, apart from the bishop. Let that celebration of the Eucharist be considered valid which is held under the bishop or anyone to whom he has committed it. Where the bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church." [Smyrnaeans 8:1-2]

St. Ignatius to the Philadelphians
"Take care, then, to partake of one Eucharist; for, one is the Flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ, and one the cup to unite us with His Blood, and one altar, just as there is one bishop assisted by the presbytery and the deacons, my fellow servants. Thus you will conform in all your actions to the will of God." [Philadelphians 4:1]

St. Ignatius to the Ephesians
Make an effort, then, to meet more frequently to celebrate God's Eucharist and to offer praise. For, when you meet frequently in the same place, the forces of Satan are overthrown, and his baneful influence is neutralized by the unanimity of your faith. Peace is a precious thing: it puts an end to every war waged by heavenly or earthly enemies." [Ephesians 13:1-2]

My parents named after St. Nicholas; however, there are almost 10 St. Nicholas's. I wonder which one it is? lol. For confirmation, I'll probably chose a counter-reformationist. May God Bless!

Thy Geekdom Come

Actually, my patron, St. Raphael the Archangel, is perfect for me...patron of travelers (I love travel), marital love (I'm currently planning on getting married someday), financial causes (I need money...can I have some?), etc.
