Aloysius
I think that's overanalytical of it. It says that HEROES give things up for the sake of the people. Priests are heroes.
Seven77
as soon as spidey let go of what he wanted the most, he got it
Aloysius: word. that struck me too. the Lord sees that we are willing to give up what we want for His sake and rewards this by giving it to us! when we sacrifice something we get it back 100 fold. think Abraham willing to sacrifice His son Issac. the mercy of GOD! Socrates
Great flick! Good fun for kids and adults! Best superhero flick ever!
In terms of vocational celibacy it seems that it teaches that only super-heros can give up women, normal men can't do that. It teaches that it is unhealthy for ordinary men to give it up and only in weird and extraordinary circumstances when they are forced to should they give up the girl.

I am not so sure the messages are good ones.
Hey Universal, it's just a comic-book movie - it's not about priestly cleibacy - lighten up a little! Apotheoun
In terms of vocational celibacy it seems that it teaches that only super-heros can give up women, normal men can't do that. It teaches that it is unhealthy for ordinary men to give it up and only in weird and extraordinary circumstances when they are forced to should they give up the girl. Priests are ordinary men called to live an extraordinary life. I am not so sure the messages are good ones.
Spiderman is an ordinary hero with some extraordinary powers, but in a sense he's an anti-super hero hero. If you think about it, he can be hurt, and so he is not invulnerable, and he has limits to his powers, like we all do, sure his limits exceed those of the norm, but he's limited nonetheless. I think the message of the movie was quite good. To be honest, even the message in the first movie was good, which was surprising to me, since the movie was a big budget Hollywood film, and so I expected it to be a rather banal special effects extravaganza. But both Spiderman movies had as their central theme the duty to use your gifts to benefit others, and to do good in spite of the evil that is all around you. I enjoyed both films.
