qfnol31
My grandfather was broke at one point. My mom tells stories where she was worried about if they would eat each day. Today he can pay for everything he wants really out of pocket. Trust me, it's a choice.
Iacobus
I say it would have better to ive tax cuts out to the middle class. The reasons I listed the amount money that could be given out if two fold, 1: A small sum ($4,000) is missing in that families per person rebate if it all went out. So that worries me. 2: I have trouble picturing a trillion of anything. LOL! That is a LOT. So this was partly a way to make it more clear to me. And I figured if I had issues I couldn't be the only one. As to the poor people I know, I know a few, not tons but a few. One of whom is my aunt. She is poor because she went back to school to get retrained and cretified as a teacher and when she got out there was no demand and she was (and still kinda is) forced to live and rasie a family on welfare. So yes it is do to her desision, but did she make a clearly wrong choice? And there are many born into proverty, that is not a choice of their own. I didn't want to be born in IL but I was. I had no control over that.
the protector
I didn't want to be born in IL but I was. I had no control over that.
Well, I had agreed with you on everything but that comment. Now, I am fuming.
No, Iacobus. Poverty in itself leads to virtue. Poverty in the context of people who think poverty is bad is what causes unrest.
Tell that to Africa. Tell the malnourished children to embrace their poverty and offer up their suffering to God. Tell them they are blessed.
Iacobus
Well, I had agreed with you on everything but that comment. Now, I am fuming.
Are you from IL? I love IL lol. But I didn't chose to be born here. Some place like ummm someplace far off like ummm IA would be nicer. LOL! Thy Geekdom Come
In your opinion, what would be a better type of tax cut? I say we need more tax cuts. I applaud Bush for it. Let's let the people who earn the money keep more of it, as opposed to growing the government. Smaller govmnt = better.
dUSt has spoken. I'm glad he's a conservative economist...
BurkeFan
Uh, dude, the 1.5 trillion number is bs... that's over a few years, not in a single year. If so, taxes would have been cut a heck of alot more, since 1.5 trillion is over half of the gov't operating budget.
Lounge Daddy
Iraq is quickly becomming self-sustaing... w/ out U.S. tax $$$ dig on this... "The U.S. government has spent 2 percent of an $18.4 billion aid package that Congress approved in October last year after the Bush administration called for a quick infusion of cash into Iraq to finance reconstruction, according to figures released Friday by the White House." Also... you mention "tax cuts out to the middle class" Do you mean to say "tax the rich to ease the tax burdon on the middle class?" I just want to make sure I understand you. "In 1999, the richest 1 percent of Americans took in 19.5 percent of the income. But they paid 36.2 percent of the taxes. The figures are similar for the top 5 percent, who made 34 percent of the money but paid 55 percent of the taxes. So much for rich people escaping taxes with sneaky loopholes, sleazy accountants and offshore shelters." Something to think about… I don’t think most taxpayers here realize this, but parents who send their kids to government schools in GR basically have their kid’s schoolbooks and other education expenses paid for by the DeVos and VanAndell families (the wealthy families in GR) because they handle more of the tax burden in West Michigan.
