The Killing of Ahmaud Arbery

I’m not black but there are a whole bunch of times I wish I could say I’m not white

Frank Zappa

Last week also, I went out and ran a 1/2 marathon in the dark. A friend has posted an article on Ahmaud Arbury and it was with me through the whole run. Those that aren’t familiar yet with the story please read below. It has taken since February for this story to make national news, but the short story is a man was murdered by two white men because he was running while black and despite being video taped and clear cut, these men will likely walk away free. On my run, I over took and passed people that were walking in the dark, I ran through back streets that I had never been on, and I didn’t have to think twice about any of it. I didn’t have to dress non-threatening, I didn’t have to run with my dog, I didn’t have to check in with my wife so she knew that I was safe...that is white privilege. (Nothing was given to me except being treated like a human.)

I’m not looking for a dialogue, just posting about something that has been weighing on me this past week. Acknowledging it is the first part, naming it when you see it is the next, and hopefully we can get to the point where treating people like humans is not a privilege, but an expectation.

as for the two thugs , only now being arrested and charged with murder , I pray the justice will be served...

also that the DA who protected the accused himself be charged with accessory to murder , thrown out of office and prosecuted

According to the law, it's going to be really difficult for this to be considered murder. You'd have to prove that the intent of the two white men was to kill the man from the start. What it appears to be to me is manslaughter. There's no doubt that these two white men were reckless and probably racist, but I don't believe that they shot him until after an altercation began. If I got the facts straight, they called 911 before any of this happened, so I doubt they planned on it escalating to this point. Racist. Probably. Stupid. Definitely. Power hungry take the law into our own hands former white cop? Obviously.

It's sad. It shows how racism, stereotyping, and profiling can escalate into a tragedy. These guys are definitely at fault for killing an innocent man who didn't deserve to die. Murder is gonna be tough to prove though.

It doesn't matter if they planned on it "escalating to this point". They had no right to hunt him down and block his path. He attempted to avoid them. A citizens arrest requires a felony. What felony was he committing? Looking at a construction site for 3 minutes?

I don't think it's going to be. The process should of started a few months ago but the corrupt police and prosecutor made sure that didn't happen. As I type this they are looking into if this is a hate crime. Obviously it is.

I agree they had no right to hunt him down like that. They should be punished for what they did. First degree murder seems unlikely according to the law but I think it'd be completely justified if they are charged with second degree murder. Justice needs to be served.

What about the Original district attorneys, protecting the two thugs who committed this cold-blooded murder.    why haven’t these man been charged with accessory to murder?

it was only after the release of the video, 10 weeks after the crime that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation made arrests and started an investigation.

Their (original district attorneys)  excuse is that they were friends of the vigilantes.. Some kind of conflict of interest they said.

these men should be held accountable and at the very least be Charged with accessory to murder

Just don't watch the news :) It has no bearing on your life, and people will tell you if something actually important happens :D

It is the best time to be alive by almost any metric. Not only that, but it is getting better at an incredible rate! You won't hear that on the news because they need views/clicks, and they most effective way to do that is negative stories.

One of my favorite FIRE proponents has a great post about it:

Low Information Diet

The news also completely f***s up the layperson’s perception of risk. The very fact that bad events are rare these days, makes them newsworthy. A bicyclist hit by a car. A school shooting or an abduction. A terrorist attack. These things are so uncommon, it is best to ignore the possibility of them when planning your own life. But with a sample size of over 300 million people in the US and 7 billion worldwide, unusual tragedies happen daily, and they end up on the news nightly.

Definitely not going to cry. I think it might be time for some viollence. Crusades were legit so I can justify it if I have to.

You could send everyone who disagrees to a nice camp. Call it something fun, like a gulag :)

No. Pulling up on some KKK Catholikkks will be a better plan of action. They're not the only one that benefits from the second amendment.

Strange, that sounds like a not so veiled threat to shoot and kill ardillacid.

======

The murder of Arbery is unjust and vile.

He wouldn't even make the list. And I'm only talking about throwing some punches. But I know most of them are gun nuts so I will have mine if they want to go that route.
