I have never been to a LT Mass, though those abuses scare me I'm sure they are a good program in many ways.

fyi, the Vatican has ordered that LifeTeen stop that abuse NOW. along with the altar gathering. the program has now told all parishes of this, and they are to enforce it.

it really depends on the parish as to what style of music it is... the softer it is, the more reverent it is, in my opinion. our parish is forming a band (with me as as keyboards :D ) that has decided NOT to play in Mass (at the request of Father), for we don't want to have the possibility of destracting the attention from the Presence in the Mass.

The LT I went to was just a normal mass with the exception of the music. We did the Creed, never gathered around the alter, but the music was always a lil more contemporary and the message in the homily a lil more geared for the students, but still relateable to the adults who were present. LT is an awesome program in my area, it just needs a little boost from the kids. The LT coordnaters always found it ironic that most of the kids came from other parishes with a min of 30 miles away than the local parish.

lglg, i've seen it, the program really does have that kind of effect. i really love their focus on the Eucharist... its incredible. i used to question the program, but now... now i'm 100% ready to bring it to St. B!!!

LifeTeen has its faults, but the Vatican fully supports it and alerts them when they are making Liturgical abuses. For instance, Msgr. Dale Fushek, founder of LifeTeen, has announced that there will no longer be altar calls during the Mass. I understand that there is some discussion being made about the alternate ending they say ("The Mass never ends...")

LifeTeen puts an incredible emphasis on love for the Eucharist in Holy Communion and Adoration. Their conferences and camps are powerful and life-changing. I support LifeTeen. In my parish, we have over 150 teens registered in our LifeTeen program. It really does what it says it does: it leads teens closer to Christ. Atleast, that's what it did for me.

Ok, 2 things

A) I didn't think my avitar would get such high remarks. *thinks "I wonder what they would think if it turned into a biffy?"*

anyway back to topic...

B) It's a bummer that I just graduated so I can't exactly be a part of LT any more, but I'm going to see if I can help with LT in a parish near where I'm going to school, or stay in contact with my "former" YM and help with LT at the parish I went too. LT has had a huge impact on me and a bunch of my buddies. This is something I want to help with, even if it's just by me praying for it's success.

For all you lovers of Lifeteen I have a question.

What happens when you have to go to normal Masses like the rest of us? Where the music can be insipid, the homily can totally irrelevant, and the whole thing sort of blah and you don't "get" anytrhing out of it?

I really worry about all the people who have outgrown the lifeteen program. Are they going to stay Catholic or are they so addicted to the "feel" of lifeteen Masses they leave the Church for the new generic christian feel-good services?

Many Generic christians go to church because it feels good, its not a Sunday obligation to them. Catholics go to Mass because if you don't you have committed a mortal sin. So on any given Sunday, you will find some Catholics at Mass not because they are happy to be there, but because it is an obligation and an act of will. They are obedient even when they don't feel good about it.

Everyone goes thru spiritual dryness, sometimes for years. Mother Teresa went thru it for 20 -3- YEARS when she got NO spiritual consolations at all.

Are kids who have gone thru the Lifeteen feel goodies going to be able to exercise their Catholic will when its not fun anymore?

Normal mass, yes, it can be boring, irrelevant, and just "blah" as you have described it, and I know exactly where you are coming from. I have always thought of Lifeteen as a "perk." I enjoyed going to Lifeteen and was totally bummed out when it went on summer break. Then my parents started telling me I couldn't go every week like I had been and it hurt.

Lifeteen for me was more than a high spirited mass, where it felt like the priests wanted the homily to apply to you, and the ability to feel more connected in the mass, I learned through Lifeteen that there was more to mass for me. There was a sense of unity that I hadn't found before. At Lifeteen I was surrounded by friends and people who understood who I am. They knew I was there, searching for something more and to meet up with my friends. At Lifeteen I felt like I really belonged at mass, but when I would go to mass at home, I didn't feel that belonging for a while. I went because it was an obligation and because I knew that I would recieve Jesus through Communion. It wasn't for a while that I realized I was "letting go" more at Lifeteen mass than I would back home, and if I would "let go" of everything that was holding me back at mass, no matter where it was, I would enjoy mass, no matter where I went and how "blah" things got.

As for an answer to your question, it depends on the person. Some people I know enjoyed regular mass more than Life Teen, but there are others who enjoy Life Teen more than regular.

my church does lifeteen and i think it's great! the same creed i've been saying all my life is said during mass. i think it meets a lot of teens where they're at and gets them more involved in their faith. and of course eventually you're going to want to go deeper into your faith and that's awsome and amazing and you should, and maybe lifeteen itself doesn't go there for you, but it gets you started.
