What my youth director does is he uses much of the Life Teen lessons, but we don't actually have Life Teen. It gives him much more freedom. :)
exactly what we have.
our priest is not fond of the LifeTeen Masses at ALL. the 2 that i have been to have both used their own version of the Creed, which leaves out some very critical information that we always profess! we also share an opinion that the band can sometimes take away the attention from what the true meaning of the Mass is. i'm not sure about the standing around the altar... sounds a bit  to me.. just cuz i'm the traditional kneel down in the pew kinda guy..

No one is allowed to gather around the altar. No priest or bishop has the right to invite anybody up around the altar.

Lifeteen has NO permission from anybody to change the Mass.
my church is starting one, but are you saying its bad to stand around the alter, cuz when we're in Mississippi, the priest that went w/ us, did a Mass and invited everyone to join him around the alter, This isn't the first time he had done this.
exactly what cmom said. it has not been approved by the Vatican, therefore they're not allowed to do it.

"There are 2 types of people in this world. the first is the one who has problems and goes to the bible and the Church. the other type is the one who goes to drugs. Man that guys is looking at the wrong burning bush"

you know my gripe with Lifeteen, well at least the Lifeteen at my Church, it doesn't go deep. It sticks to the surface of the faith. Sure it's good for bringin people in, but once they're in they don't see any depth to it, each life night is just again and again the same stuff, they talk to us and cite pop-spirituality books that they think have some deep lesson they're gettin to us when in reality it's just a cheap surface trick on spirituality. They need to find a way to bring people in deeper.

at least the lifeteen in my area.

well ya i agree and thats why our lifeteen leader guy started this thing called "Going Deeper" and its a much more involved intense discussion and the great thing about lifeteen is that there are people of different parts in their faith so it takes them in and by establishing another program like Going Deeper u can smell of elderberries them into the magesterium ;)
It does have problems though, and some of them are major. In all the Lifeteen masses I've been to or heard about, they do change the mass (the Lifeteen website encourages the teens to gather around the altar), and I haven't seen anything from Rome that approves this. You'd think that if the approval existed, it'd be available for view on the Lifeteen website. They change the words of the dismissal prayer from "the mass has ended" to "the mass never ends"--again, without approval from Rome. This should not be taken lightly. The mass is universal, so when different groups start changing little things here and there, they are in essence destroying that universal unity.
Actually the Holy See, in either the General Instructions to the Roman Missal or Redemptionis Sacramentum, or both, did mention that these two abuses specifically should be stopped.
