Hey everyone.

First off, I'm not a creepy alien, but I figure that this is the place to post this topic. I've decided (with a call from God) to start getting involved in high school youth ministry and met with the youth director at our church earlier this week. We chatted some and he told me that they use the Life Teen program at our church. Now, I only became Catholic a little over a year ago, and I wasn't even involved much in the youth program at the church I went to in high school. Do any of your parishes use Life Teen for your youth program? If so, how is it and is there anything I should know about it before getting into it as a youth minister?

Peace,
Jay

First, that is AWESOME that you want to be a Youth Minister! GOD BLESS!! From what I understand, LifeTeen in and of itself isn't bad. I mean, all programs have there flaws, the LT Mass happens to this programs'! They do things that, I understand, are Liturgicaly Incorrect. For example: At the Mass, they will, all go up to the Altar after the... (I forgot, I haven't been to a LT Mass in a long time) But they are up there for Consecration and just stand there. Like, they are standing next to the Priest at Consecration and ALL around the altar. Also they also don't say the correct Creed at Mass. These are just a couple of things that I have noticed in going to the LT Mass. But the youth program is great from what I understand! God Bless you in your youth ministry!!

It awesome you want to be a youth minister. I had a friend who was in lifeteen. He said the program was really good and it helped him grow in his faith a whole lot. But he also told me they did some wierd stuff at mass, the kind of thing AnCoRa33 was talking about. So if you do get involved with lifeteen try and get all the wierd stuff out of their masses.

I got 2 lifeteen and ancora thats not correct at all... first of all we say the proper creed and nothing in the mass is abusive to the Vatican. We say the same creed and we do gather the altar but theres something that allows us 2... im not entirely sure but it was explained to my mom

the program is AWESOME! if it wasnt for lifeteen i wouldnt be where i am right now. This program really got me going and i kinda took it on my own from there but it really gave me that first step to growing in faith!

What my youth director does is he uses much of the Life Teen lessons, but we don't actually have Life Teen. It gives him much more freedom. :)

LT,

Would you mind asking your mom what it is for me? I'm curious myself.

Okay, obviously, not all the Churches have it that way, but at most of the LT Churches I have been to or talked to people from, they do say the incorrect Creed and go behind the Chairs and REALLY stand NEXT TO THE PRIEST!!!! I think that LT great aspects and their flaws, just like all programs!!!

It's pretty much impossible for us to do a Lifeteen Mass at our church. We have a 5:30 Sunday Mass, but it's well established as a regular Sunday Mass that anyone can attend. Converting the Mass to a Lifeteen Mass would upset a whole lot of people, considering we're also the only parish in the area that has an evening mass.

Our youth director pretty much said that the lessons are followed pretty closely, so how good are the lessons? I saw a few and they looked pretty good, even though they seemed kinda cheesey. Then again, I'm a pretty cheesey person so I think I'll fit right in.

Lifeteen, if taken as a whole, is a good program. I say this because of the focus on Christ's Real Presence in the Eucharist. Most of the kids that I see come out of the Lifeteen program have a true devotion to the Eucharist, which is awesome.

It does have problems though, and some of them are major. In all the Lifeteen masses I've been to or heard about, they do change the mass (the Lifeteen website encourages the teens to gather around the altar), and I haven't seen anything from Rome that approves this. You'd think that if the approval existed, it'd be available for view on the Lifeteen website. They change the words of the dismissal prayer from "the mass has ended" to "the mass never ends"--again, without approval from Rome. This should not be taken lightly. The mass is universal, so when different groups start changing little things here and there, they are in essence destroying that universal unity.

If you do become involved in Lifeteen, I hope that you'll be able to encourage your parish to put an end to any liturgical abuse aspects of it, because like I said, the rest of the program is completely awesome.

Like all programs in the Church, I pray that Lifeteen will conform 100% to orthodoxy, because with orthodoxy, it has the potential to be more powerful than it is now.

my church is starting one, but are you saying its bad to stand around the alter, cuz when we're in Mississippi, the priest that went w/ us, did a Mass and invited everyone to join him around the alter, This isn't the first time he had done this.
