The Vow Of Priestly Celibacy

What happens if a priest has sex after he is ordained? Can he just confess and repent? Is he removed from his position?

If he tells of this sin during confession to another priest, must it remain confidential?

Does this only apply with scandal? What if his partner had sex with him willingly?

Just curious. Thanks!

Anything a priest says in confession, stays in confession, just like you and me. In fact, it would be a sin for the priest hearing the Confession to even use that information to expose the priest, even if just to the Bishop.

If a priest breaks his vow of celibacy it is like breaking his vow of obedience, it is a sin that he must repent of. It does nothing to his identity or duty as a priest.

If the Bishop was to find out about this sin, he would have to decide whether the priest should stay or go. He would most likely be removed from his position if it caused scandal or was a particularly severe situation. He certainly would be placed under very strict scrutiny.

If his partner did not do it willingly, well, then that is particulaly severe (if the other person was very young, or if the priest raped someone). This would most definitely result in removal from the priesthood or some other very serious penalty.
