Greetings, plebs.

I am once again here to make an announcement concerning my life, which I know is what you are all most concerned about and interested in.

You're welcome.

As you may know, 4 years ago I was accepted into seminary for my diocese, and I am currently in the final 4 weeks of college at Holy Trinity/the University of Dallas. With graduation on the horizon, decisions had to be made and life courses chosen.

To your insurmountable excitement, I am pleased to announce that I am continuing on in priestly formation.

Next fall, I will be going to Mundelein seminary in Chicago. I'm very pleased with this, as it is where I've wanted to go since before I even applied to seminary. As an added bonus, the semester before my diaconate ordination I will spend ten weeks in the Holy Land. I'll be able to spend an entire night in prayer in the Holy Sepulcher. Also I have the opportunity to get a pontifical degree, which I would very much like to do.

Because I used to do this quite often and it's been a hot minute, here's a picture of me from about a month ago. You'll notice a few minor changes to my appearance.

That is truly amesome!  Prayers for your future

Prayer

O Jesus, our great High Priest, Hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priest, Phuture Priest, Give him a deep faith, a bright and firm hope and a burning love which will ever increase in the course of his priestly life.
In his loneliness, comfort him In his sorrows, strengthen him In his frustrations, point out to him that it is through suffering that the soul is purified, and show him that he is needed by the Church, he is needed by souls, he is needed for the work of redemption.
O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests, take to your heart your son who is close to you because of his priestly ordination, and because of the power which he has received to carry on the work of Christ in a world which needs him so much.
Be his comfort, be his joy, be his strength, and especially help him to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy.
Amen.

I live in Chicago and did my pre wedding private retreat at Mundelein. It feels so rural, a hundred miles away from the city. But the city is also right there. So nice. My husband and I would love to take you for din sometime or otherwise contribute to the care and feeding of my fave seminarian.

I'm sure u know this but surgical masks won't seal around your impressive facial hair. Just moments ago I used a pair of dig clippers on the back of my husband's neck. There are options for tree trimming while in quarantine.  Just saying.

The monks of Saint Louis Abbey will be praying for you!   Come visit us.  If you're ever in Saint Louis, come stay with us.  Seminarians stay for free at Saint Louis Abbey!  (Of course, everyone stays for free, but you're particularly encouraged.)

Welcome to Illinois.  You will have a chance to work off some of your time in Purgatory.  rotfl

If I see this bumper sticker, I'll know it's you.

Seriously, another Chicagoan here. I've been to St. Mary of the Lake a few times for HS retreats.  Beautiful, peaceful grounds.  And if you are into astrophysics, you will like the rector, Fr. Kartje; he has a doctorate in it.

I'm not sure if you will be in full cassock right away, but be prepared for a wide of temperatures.  Winters can be very cold, and summers can be very hot.

If you can make it into the city, you will have a lot of ethnic dining options, as well as many parishes with a wide of variety of beautiful architectures.  You may even intern at one of them. You will have parishes that have traditional Latin Masses (the canons regular of St. John Cantius even staff a parish in Lake County, St. Peter's in Volo), an Opus Dei parish (St. Mary of the Angels, where several scenes from the Steven Seagal movie Above the Law was filmed while it was closed pending renovation), Spanish-speaking parishes, Polish-speaking parishes, and others (mine is actually tri-lingual - English, Polish, and Spanish).  There are even liberal parishes where you may be able to work off even more of your Purgatory time.

As I recall, you're from Kansas, correct?  Additionally, you were asking for advice on what language to take at college seminary, correct?  Which one did you eventually choose?  I know the Chicago seminarians at one time (25-30 years ago) had to take either Spanish or Polish because those were the predominant languages of the immigrants settling in Chicago, but since there are a lot of priests from Poland they may concentrate mostly on Spanish for the native-born seminarians.

I don't know, but your juxtaposition of tree trimming and your husband's neck has me worried for him, especially if you just increased his life insurance benefit amountrotfl

That would be great! I'm not too sure on all the details yet, but orientation begins on August 16th. I'm sure there will be some time when I will be available to meet and hang out (from what I understand, Mundelein's schedule isn't exactly strenuous.)

I've yet to try one on. Luckily we haven't been hit too hard in my area, and I'm hoping it stays that way so my poor beard can be spared. :P I've had it since early October of 2016 and I've never once shaved, and barring some demented challenge of obedience by a superior I'd like to keep that tradition going.

Thank you, I appreciate the prayers and the invitation! I would love to visit sometime. My diocese also uses Kenrick, so there's a real possibility I might be in the area some time.

Thanks for the information! I am not particularly into astrophysics, but I have the esteem of being able to brag that I bluffed my way through an astronomy class despite not understanding what was going on the entire time.

I am from Kansas, yes. I eventually ended up doing 4 semesters of Spanish, and plague-permitting I will be doing a Spanish class over the summer. When I reach Mundelein I will do Latin because they require all the seminarians to take it, which I am certainly not complaining about. I intend to take the EF training program they offer at Mundelein, so the Latin classes will be beneficial.

If you do make it to St. Louis, let me know. I'll buy you a beer... or a bourbon... or maybe one of each...

I like both of those things, so you definitely have my interest.

Does this mean we have to admit we know you?

Certainly not. Only in the extremely unlikely case that it is ever socially beneficial.
