Actually - using a gendered slur such as referring to a discussion in which 2 women exchange strong view points as a "cat fight" - is the terrible witness to Catholicism. I am not a woman. If your name did not have an ending that is often interpreted as stereotypically feminine in the english speaking world your conversation with me would not have been called a cat fight. Perhaps I would be called a mean B, or you a bully. (I am not a B and you are not a bully but strong conversations between a man and woman are also frequently frowned upon.) Anyway, misogyny is why people who are assumed to be women are referred to as being in a cat fight when they exchange strong views. And misogyny is a sin to the extant its deliberate and shouldn't be "thanked." I do thank you for your perspective on the Pell matter as it's been the occassion of reading and education for me. Although I continue to remain agnostic on the subject of this verdict. Perhaps the best we can pray for is that the generation of men who don't understand why sexual violence is wrong will pass away from this earth. For a third party to intervene just to resort to name calling is hardly helpful to the discussion. And I completely understand why people who are not personally concerned in the matter try to keep an open mind on the subject. Historical offences will always be shrouded in uncertainty and doubt for those who are not personally affected. As for my username you can blame that on my total ignorance of Latin. I wanted to make it something about loving the Cross - I was going for the obscure but historical such as: Origin of crusade: from Spanish cruzada, altered after French croisade, both from Medieval Latin cruciata from past participle of cruciare, to mark with a cross from Classical Latin crux, cross and Cara: from the Latin cārus meaning “darling, beloved, dear, loved one” but it never occurred to me that there were masculine and feminine versions of this - or even how to put the words together. I just figured if someone read my profile they would see that I am a male. Presumption on my part I suppose.
