Chrysologus
I know that we believe in biblical inerrancy, that the Bible is never wrong, but does this extend to matters of history or science? I know Vatican II said the Bible is never wrong in matters God has revealed "for our salvation," but this seems ambiguous. Lately some people on this forum have been trying to say that the footnotes in the NAB are heretical because they point out internal contradictions within the biblical text. Yet this is the official Bible of the American Catholic Church, which makes me believe inerrancy must not be absolute. Is this heresy, or am I correct in thinking that inerrancy only cover matters of faith and morality?
BLAZEr
The Official Bible for the whole Catholic Church is the Latin Vulgate. All Bibles are translations of the original texts and must be in accordance with the Vulgate. There is no such thing as the American Catholic Church. Here is a good article at Catholic Answers for helping you to choose a good translation: Bible Translation Guide And here is one on Inerrency and Inspiration: Catholic Truth
