MorphRC
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An Arabic infancy Gospel written before the time of Muhammad, has been added to Al Qur'aan, much like the Virgin Mary and Palm Tree story. Almost totally identical to the original Arabic Infant Gospel written around 140-150AD, it appears in Surah Al-Maeda Ayat 110 - Chap 5, Verse 110. MorphRC June 1st 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Al Qur'aan: Shakir's Translation: Surah 5 Ayat 110: Chap. 5 Ver. 110: When Allah will say: O Isa son of Marium! Remember My favor on you and on your mother, when I strengthened you I with the holy Spirit, you spoke to the people in the cradle and I when of old age, and when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Taurat and the Injeel; and when you determined out of clay a thing like the form of a bird by My permission, then you breathed into it and it became a bird by My permission, and you healed the blind and the leprous by My permission; and when you brought forth the dead by My permission; and when I withheld the children of Israel from you when you came to them with clear arguments, but those who disbelieved among them said: This is nothing but clear enchantment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Non-Canonical Gospel: THE ARABIC GOSPEL OF THE INFANCY OF THE SAVIOUR 140-150 AD IN the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God. With the help and favour of the Most High we begin to write a book of the miracles of our Lord and Master and Saviour Jesus Christ, which is called the Gospel of the Infancy: in the peace of the Lord. Amen. [Beginning] 1. We find (1) what follows in the book of Joseph the high priest, who lived in the time of Christ. Some say that he is Caiaphas. (2) He has said that Jesus spoke, and, indeed, when He was lying in His cradle said to Mary His mother: I am Jesus, the Son of God, the Logos, whom thou hast brought forth, as the Angel Gabriel announced to thee; and my Father has sent me for the salvation of the world. 46. Again, on another day, the Lord Jesus was with the boys at a stream of water, and they had again made little fish-ponds. And the Lord Jesus had made twelve sparrows, and had arranged them round His fish-pond, three on each side. And it was the Sabbath-day. Wherefore a Jew, the son of Hanan, coming up, and seeing them thus engaged, said in anger and great indignation: Do you make figures of clay on the Sabbath-day? And he ran quickly, and destroyed their fish-ponds. But when the Lord Jesus clapped His hands over the sparrows which He had made, they flew away chirping. Then the son of Hanan came up to the fish-pond of Jesus also, and kicked it with his shoes, and the water of it vanished away. And the Lord Jesus said to him: As that water has vanished away, so thy life shall likewise vanish away. And immediately that boy dried up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This plagiarism is a lot more clearer. Here we can clearly see the story was copied almost word for word, but changed from Iesus own power to Allah giving permission for Iesus doing this miracle. This is more evidence that Al Qur'aan could not have been revealed by God, unless God plagiarizes works of persons.
phatcatholic
i hate to disagree w/ ya bro, but i don't think that similarity, even when particularly striking, is enough to prove plagarisim/borrowing/causality. afterall, this same argument is often hoisted against catholics b/c the Trinity is so similar to pagan Gods, and b/c Mary seems so much like Ishtar, etc., etc.... just b/c Mary is similar to Ishtar, that does not mean that our beliefs in mary came from beliefs in Ishtar. likewise, just b/c the Koran account is similar to an Arabic source, does not prove that it actually came from that source--or that one is the cause of the other. --for more on this type of logic, go here causality in general is difficult to prove. that's why most scientists work instead w/ correlation. but what you have essentially said here is that the Arabic source is the cause of the Koran source. it takes much more then similarity to prove this. i provide these comments not to instigate debate, but to provide the other side of the coin--which has great value when seeking to inform others about apologetics (which is the goal of this board). you are likewise allowed to respond, since this would provide the explanation behind the original proposition, which is equally informative and valuable. your brother in Christ (rather you like it or not! ), phatcatholic Edited July 2, 2004 by phatcatholic

These are parallel to the stories in the Arabic Gospel of the Infancy (32), and in the apocryphal Gospel of Thomas. *Backup of Arabic Gospel*
