sorry... but this bows the passion away like a tissue in a nasal huricane...
The Passion was quite possibly the greatest film ever made. Period. Nothing can touch it. It surpasses "entertainment" value. It has a much greater meaning and impact, not just the story, but the presentation of the story. It reaches your soul. Spiderman, all it could ever do is entertain. The Passion teaches, it touches, it is an experience, nothing less.

yeah... for you.

this debate is pure opinion.

the passion didn't do anything for me because, well... i knew the story. i pray the sorrowful mysteries. i learned the historical facts. i got to Mass... it's the same story every time, just presented in an art form.

it can't really be held in the context of entertainment, and please don't take it personally. if i drew a picture of jesus and i hired an artist to paint a landscape, even though i drew our savior, the artist's painting is going to mean more to people.

spider-man, like LOTR and other amazing "good vs. evil" epics have the power to create vivid imagry and fantasy envorinments that apeal to the surreal imaginations of people. in that genre of entertainment, it is VERY easy to be taught, touched, and experience great things that can guide your educated conscience towards Christ for those who can identify general good with the source of all good. perhaps think of it as modern day parables.

so, after seeing both movies twice, that makes...

spiderman2 - 148 *'s
passion - 140 *'s

When I saw the Passion, I promised myself that I would try to learn something from it, and get closer to my LORD from seeing it..I reflected on the movie a little afterward..Jesus died for me..Living the Catholic life isnt just about following rules..sure you meditate on the mysteries, but do you ever look back and think what would have happened if Jesus didn't do this for the entire world, and how much pain he had to bear? I know you all know..but the pain is to excruciating to imagine..

excruciating- means 'of the cross'

being crucified was soo painful..they had to think of a new word to explain it..

it wasnt only the 2 robbers on either side of Jesus that(from what it seems like..)deserved that incredible way of dieing..we all did..

dont just go bye the rules, life the life that Jesus did in every way you can..

GOD will give you your rewards...

The movie was awesome, though it is a bloody shame about Dunst being pro-choice. :sadder:
As for the comparison to Passion and Spiderman 2, I'll just say that I cried during Passion (all three times I saw it) and I didn't during Spiderman 2.
My only gripe with S2 is that it ended up not fitting into my analogy, but it almost did.

That movie was AWESOME! It was so much better than the first!

Warning! Spoilers!

I really liked Spiderman, but I thought this was even better. It was a lot more exciting and it seemed more like a comic book than a film -- which I think it should be.

One of my favorite parts was the opening sequence with the comic book-like flashbacks to the first movie. I thought it was very effective, refreshing the audience's memory just enough so that they could be set for the film to start. It was a great way to do it; there was no time wasted with corny or lousy flashbacks at the beginning of the movie.

I thought the action scenes were more exciting and intense. The CGI was good, too. I think they could easily win awards for Special Effects, especially since there's no Lord of the Rings to run against this year.

Also, Spiderman and Peter Parker weren't as separate as they seemed in the first movie. Under the mask, Spiderman is still Peter Parker. He is your average guy trying to get by. He's (unlike Bruce Wayne or some other hero) very poor, very overworked and stressed out, full of his own problems. Yet he musters the courage to help others, putting everyone else before himself.

The message of the film was also great. I know, it's so much of a Hollywood movie, but I thought it was more than just a popcorn flick. There were great things in there about responsibility, not giving into despair, heroism, and self-sacrifice. For some reason, it just really spoke to me, especially the hope against hope, not despairing part. I really liked it.

i saw spiderman 2 last night, and i must admit, it was one fantastic movie! the special effects dissapointed me at first, but they got much better in a very quick fasion!

however, i don't think any movie can come close to the Passion of the Christ... Even tho it's the story you may have heard over and over again, it's the Story of Christ's Eternally Blazing Love for all of us! it's the story that never ever gets old! it's the story that we're all called to live! it has it's own surreal parts to it! no man should ever have to go through all that for us, but he did! i don't know if it gets any more surreal than that... even at that, just to further entice your surreal tastebuds, there is the physical role we can see satan play in the passion. we can see him in all his malice, and we can see him cry out in agony in that wretched cave when Christ dies to conquer all sin! And if that's not enough... what the movie ends with is by far more surreal than anything i've ever heard of in my entire life! after all that abuse, He comes back, ressurected! nothing, absolutely Nothing, could bring Jesus down! that's as awesome as it gets! my head is filled with so many way awesome thoughts when i watch this movie! mostly, i think of "why did He do that for me?" and "what can i do to live that life for Him?"

IXPenguin, you're right when you say that you can't call the Passion "entertainment" because it is in no way entertaining. it is, however, an experience that NO MOVIE ever has come close to immitating.

just my thoughts

God Bless ya'll!
praise God spider man is catholic.... right?
I have a suspicion that the director is... I'm pretty sure that his brother (Ted Raimi, who was Hoffman, the assistant to the editor guy) went to University of Detroit (college) for awhile, after going to U of M and NYU. U of D is a Jesuit university.

Okay. No whining now if you read this. I warned you.

I'M SO GLAD MARY JANE FINALLY LEARNED WHO SPIDERMAN IS AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THEIR MUTUAL LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally after two years of going "AWWWW MAN!" when Peter had to break MJ's heart at the cemetary, finally LOVE conquers all!!!

w00t!!!!

I'm not always such a romantic. But I really like the Spidey series and was stoked to see it this evening at the theater. Good movie.

;)

And you people need to stop comparing Spiderman to the Passion of the Christ!!! For crying out loud. It's about as sensible as comparing an apple to an orange.

I will also say I was terribly disappointed to hear Dunst participated in the "march for women's lives" because she USED to be one of my favorite actresses. But I am praying for her now and I pray that she may change her mind. She's always struck me as being a sensible girl in the past. I watched a TV interview where she spoke of how she regretted the risque photos she once did for Maxim magazine and that she doesn't think that was such a great idea now and wouldn't do that again. Which was why I was so disappointed to hear she participated in that march.

We must pray for her and all our celebrities. They are really surrounded by so much evil influence.
