I was raised in the Baptist church, and the only reason why I know as much as I do is because my husband loves to study theology, and then talk about it at night while I'm trying to go to sleep. MorphRC
Ok..Long Long story short. ------------------------------- Before 9/11 I couldnt really careless for religion, I went to Mass, had the Eucharist and all, just because my mum went, and its in my ancestery, I didnt know about the whole transub stuff and that, anyways then 9/11 happened and the media flooded us with all this religious stuff about Islam, who it was etc, and I wanted to know [probably like most] what the hell would make someone do such an act. So I started investigating Islam, read Al Qur'aan, studied tonnes of books and stuff and that started me off on the religious stuff. By Dec 01 I was fully into religion, I read about 14 books since 9/11 on Islam, then decided to read about my own religion. Started reading a book called 'My Faith' that a Padre gave me a few years ago, which I never really bothered to read. By the end of my year 12[02] I was fully into religion, reading anything I could get, Id swap from Catholicism to Islaam, to Judaism, mainly concentrating on the two abrahamic religions, J & C, from there on to about the 6/03. I started reading the bible in January 03 [NAB  ] and that pretty much started to shatter any faith I had, but I persisted hoping their would be some good points in it to bring my faith back. By 6/03 I had major doubts and pretty much fell into [semi-] atheism, but persisted with reading other stuff. Stayed into that for 3 months, finally coming back to faith in God, then back with Christ, and then the Church, this was 'cycle' was finished in about middle-end october. Then i started going to confession and Mass in the city cathedral, went to confession every week [I WASNT A REALLY BAD SINNER, I didnt know about Venial Sins and how the Eucharist could destroy them..SO LAY OFF -_- ], this persisted until just before Christmas. During those months I got right into Doctrine, and started reading the Bible again, I finished the OT shortly after my traineeship at Parliament SA ended [02/04]. I had no problems with doctrines, dogma and that, finally understood the 'gap' between the First Council of Constantinople [381AD], and from Christ's death, and found out what happened, and what was done inbetween that time [never bothered with that, but was a constant 'brain-tickler..]. Started reading the NT by the end of 02/04, and started with Matthew and went straight thru as I did with the OT, and found all these faith crushing implies, and comments such as 'peculiar to matthew', 'must be some outside source' and so on, this pretty much started to destroy any faith in the Gospels. By the end of Romans, Id had enuf of the bible and wished Id never read the thing and stayed in my blissful ignorance of everything, I didnt bother reading the rest of the footnotes after Romans, and finished the bible the next day. By that time, I was seriously, seriously questioning Christianity. I almost ended up converting to Islaam, didnt. Came back again, though i never really lost total faith, and then started reading and doing apologetics, and reading the most stupidist and idiotic things Ive ever heard, then whether going into chats, or my MSN mess, people who knew I was ok with apologetics gave out my address, and then I got flooded with more idiots on that.. Read the Catechism, which was cool, then I read the Islamic part and was disgusted the Church could actually say such a thing, then i started reading traditional catholic teaching, [what my mum learned] and again I was annoyed, angry and all that, with extra beliefs and stuff. Anyways by the start of June, I had, had enuf with Christianity, and decided its making me just unhappy, im not following hardly any of the basic tenets, prayer, eucharist and all that, I decided to leave. Theres still a connection there, but I remember how unhappy I was in it, so it doesnt really bother me that much. Theres more spiritual matters, but this is personal enuf. Hope this fits. and doesnt bore.

hopeful1
WOW! That's ALOT of Studying, MorphRC. I'll give you props for at least looking at things at an intellectual level instead of basing things off of pure emotion. I'd ask what things turned you off, but i have a feeling that's another thread for another day. Whatever you do, don't give up! :-)
Guest mj_girl
I was born Roman Catholic into a non-practicing family. I went out with a "goth" guy, looked into Satanism, thought it was more interesting, and here i am. I think most religions are extreme, and id rather not follow any at all. It doesnt do anything for anyone...Wheres the result? Its called coincedence. Pure coincedence.

MG's_mom
I grew up Catholic, very devout, and had a fresh encounter with Christ during the Jesus movement of the early 70's. My husband and I were married in the Church, and continued there until there were issues with our priest and the Word of God. (now I know that priests are human and all...)We were led to a Protestant Church at that time. We are members of an Assemblies of God church at this time. Our pastor is very active in an ecumenical prayer group of 70 pastors in our city (including Catholic priests), and I think we have been helpful to him in understanding his Catholic brethren. There are a goodly number of "cradle Catholics" in our congregation, including some Mexican-born ones whose Catholicism was witchcraft-based (by that I mean the entire parish was steeped in such, and their adult encounter with Christ led them out of the Church for that reason). But, that said, our pastor, being a cradle-Assemblies guy, has had some misconceptions. So (referring to another post about "groups" on this forum) I feel like I could be a "defender of the faith" even though I am currently in another church. body
BeenaBobba
Hi mj_girl (again), I asked that out of genuine curiosity. (I hope it doesn't seem like I'm judging you.) Again, I'll ask. What is it about Satanism that you find true and good? I'm Catholic, and Satanism is really, really far from Catholicism. Of course, God and Satan are enemies.
