Guest JeffCR07
Hey, I want to ask this question on this board so that I get an answer that is solidly what the Church teaches: I know that many laypeople (like those in the Militia Immaculata) consecrate their lives to Mary. They do not take vows of chastity or poverty, but rather vow to show extra devotion to our Blessed Mother. My question is this: Can you consecrate your life to any of the Saints as well? I ask in the same sense as those who consecrate themselves to Mary, not in the Confirmation-name kind of way. I don't know if it has been done before, or if it is even allowed, or what the Church (if anything) has to say about it, so I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with a little info. Thanks! - Your Brother in Christ, Jeff
Pio Nono
JMJ 7/1 - Thirteenth Thursday JeffRC07, Good question; first things first, though, consecration of anything to anyone other than Almighty God is pagan. Consecrating myself to St. Thomas More would be just as Christian as consecrating myself to Mars or Hermes. Marian consecrations always have the understanding elucidated by St. Louis de Montfort - one does not consecrate oneself to Mary, but to Jesus through Mary. Any consecration spelled out "to Mary" must be understood in this way and in no other. People may consecrate themselves to Mary, but that is with the understanding that what she wants is what her Son wants. My answer is somewhat convoluted and ranting (being tired will do that), so if you need more explanation, contact me. Hope this helps.
