Lynne
By the way, does anyone know how many voters came out? I've been looking but I can't find it.
Crusader_4
Liberal minority government. However in my area the openly gay former mayor Glen Murray ran against Stephen Fletcher (Conservative) and Mr. Murray lost. I am glad that Mr. Fletcher won not because i discrimniate against Mr. Murray but because he will show the views that i beleive in views of Natural Law and rational. crusader1234
I'm very happy with the way this turned out. The Conservatives only redeeming quality is usually their pro-life stance, but they don't even take up that this year. I'm glad that the Liberals won with a minority (this means everyone is well represented I think) and I'm really happy with the fact that the NDP doubled their seats. Its interesting to note that Fletcher is also confined to a wheelchair.

Iacobus
Well, this is Canada elections. As I gather none of the parties was prolife so I guess it was a free for all as to who is worse. So Burke I am not sure what you mean, if the liberal losts it would be the same as it is now. LD, yes it is a Liberal minorty goverment. But the are the largest group repersented. BurkeFan
Ach, sorry. Just realized that you were addressing me. I had heard speculation that if the conservatives came into power, gay marriage would be rolled back. I was hoping the Bible would be declassified as hate speech too... Edit: I think it might have even been on a Canadian radio station... CBC Radio Two, if I remember. Edited June 29, 2004 by BurkeFan
mmmerf
ok, but this is what i am seeing in the news... "Liberal Party Loses Control of Canadian Parliament" so, what's up now? it's not all bad
Well, We have a different system than you types south of the border. We are governed by Parliament. Our Prime Minister is just the leader of the political group which holds the most elected seats in Parliament. The reason the Liberals (note the large 'L', indicating a proper noun) are said to have 'lost control' of parliament is as follows. For the last DECADE ( ) they've controlled more than 50% of the seats - so that any legislation that they wanted to pass could get voted through parliament by the Liberals alone. Now, while the Liberals still won the most seats in this election, they don't have 50% of the seats in Parliament. Which means that to get things passed, they'll have to co-operate with other parties. (Most likely the NDP, New Democratic Party, which are more liberal than the Liberals) (Still with me?) Anyways. So now our governing body will be less powerful and more accountable. And most likely there will be another election in two years or so.
crusader1234
Hey, Yeah, the Liberals got around 130, the Conservatives got aorund 90, the Bloq got around 60, and the NDP got around 20. The Bloq is semi-conservative (there were talks of them "working together") so this means that if the Liberals try to pass something morally wrong, they wont be able to. Paladin D
Crusader, how can you support a political party that may have some good policies here and there, but overall supports Abortion and Homosexual Marriage? From what I know, the Church demands for Catholics to support politicans who are against such things. By supporting a Liberal politican (who supports abortion), you are contributing to the modern day holocaust.
