28yrolddiscerner
Two quick questions... 1. Is fasting not eating anything or bread and water? 2. Is bread dipped in oil still considered fasting? I’ve heard different things, and looking for someone who knows. thank you
truthfinder
In terms of the Latin (Roman) Church, the Eucharistic fast is not eating anything, save water, from 1 hr before reception of Communion. The Lenten fast is one full meal and two partial meals that together do not equal a full meal. That's it. If you want to fast beyond what's given here, that's up to you and potentially your spiritual director. If you belong to an Eastern church, you should contact them directly as they have different requirements. So, for the Latin church, all those things are fasting.
