tinytherese
I attended 4 p.m. mass right after confession and our priest told us that we had to go twice this weekend because of the holy day of obligation the feast of the Immaculate Conception. This confused me because I had been told that if a holy day of obligation falls on a saturday that we're not oblilgated to attend mass twice on that weekend. Apparentally, the exception to this in the U.S. is the Immaculate Conception and in some places the Ascension. Not everybody knows this. The patron saint of the U.S. is the Immaculate Conception, so we can't miss it. This is confusing. https://forums.catholic.com/t/the-immaculate-conception-2018/483144
truthfinder
Yeah, it's confusing. This is what happens when HDOs are tinkered with. In Canada, it's not an obligation at all; they haven't even transferred it to the nearest Sunday. But yes, it is an obligation in the US, along with Christmas, which cannot be transferred even if it falls on a Saturday or Monday.
