Earthquake

I was getting ready to hit the sack when I heard that a mild earthquake struck IL within the past hour.

It was 4.5 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was near Ottawa, IL (Starved Rock state park).

Iacobus, maybe you shouldn't have made those anti-Star Trek comments in the other thread!!!

Years ago, when I was in High School, they discovered Illinois was on a major fault line. They predicted the big one could come at any moment and really shake the midwest. Not much materialzed, but I remember stocking up on bottled water.

That map was pretty cool Norse. My home town is on it!

peace...

I remember there being an earthquake in Ill. I think I was in college at the time... One of these days, the big one is going to hit and knock Chicago right into Lake Michigan!

The entire Mississippi river system is a major set of fault lines. Some of the worst earhquakes in past history where in the middle of the US.

Look at the maps halfway down the page: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/faq/regional.html#2]

Pedro,

You're referring to the New Madrid fault line in southern Illinois, just south of St. Louis.

Louisiana doesn't get hit with earthquakes but we sure have our share of tornadoes and hurricanes. Poor New Orleans one big hurricane would wipe the place out since its under sea level

That's usually all Louisiana is. It usually stops raining around March and starts again in October, but we've been getting so many storms here lately that we are constantly under Flood Watches and Warnings.
