Iacobus
I saw it and loved it. Watch the credits at the end. Half the priests in the movie are real priests. Mostly S.J. watch for it. LOL! I saw the one with the documetary at the start and I was like "HEY DUDE THATS A JESUIT!" and my friend was like "a Jesu-what?" And than I watched the credits and I was screaming. He won't watch movies with me anymore, too scared a priest will pop up. LOL!
BeenaBobba
I've heard that really creepy things were happening on the set, so they had a Jesuit bless them. The USCCB movie review says that the theology is a bit off in this film, but I don't know too much about exorcisms, so I can't really say. Does anyone know where the trouble is? Paladin D
I'm too scared to see it, though I may wind up seeing it one day. Anyways, should we really be seeing this stuff?
BeenaBobba
I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. It's a really disturbing movie. So, if you don't think that this is a good movie for you to see, then I certainly wouldn't recommend it to you. However, for horror movie buffs, like myself, it's a great film. Frankly, it made me want to run to Confession after I first saw it. To this day, I'm thankful for being Catholic after I watch The Exorcist. It makes me feel awe at the great power of God in driving out demons. God bless, Jen

BeenaBobba
Hi Morph, Yes, The Exorcist is loosely based around a true story: the possession of a 14-year-old Maryland boy in the 30s or 40s (or around then). Apparently, he was the inspiration for William Peter Blatty's novel. The boy would hear scratching inside his mattress and behind the walls. One of his family members got concerned and called his pastor. His pastor wanted to spend the night in a chair next to his bed to see what would happen. Somehow, the boy, while still sleeping, was dragged across the room. That was all the pastor needed to see. Sometime after, the Catholic Church was asked to intervene, as the non-Catholic pastor thought that this sort of thing was out of his league. (The Catholic Church takes care of business, baby!) Eventually, an exorcism took place, and the boy saw a vision of St. Michael driving away the demon. That's all I know about the story off the top of my head. I'll try to find more info, though. God bless, Jen

Paladin D
There is one thing that concerns me about this specific movie, wouldn't this make us afraid of the Devil? Thus making us even weaker?
BeenaBobba
There is one thing that concerns me about this specific movie, wouldn't this make us afraid of the Devil? Thus making us even weaker?
I'm not sure, Paladin. If this movie hurt one's faith, I'd tell that person to not watch the movie again. But I didn't walk away feeling like this. If anything, I was awed at the power of God and the triumph of good over evil. This movie, actually, made me feel very proud to be Catholic. Yes, this movie is scary, but I'm guessing Fr. Amorth's (Fr. Amorth is the chief exorcist of Rome) books would be kind of scary as well. Mark Shea posted a story about demons around Halloween of last year, I think, and I was sitting there looking over my shoulders every few minutes. I know that God is greater than Satan, but I also know that I am powerless without God. Humans are naturally a bit scared when their perceptions are challenged. People don't normally speak languages they don't know, or speak things backwards, so I'd be pretty scared if I heard someone talk like this. I'd be like, "Um, something's wrong." I think human beings are just wired that way. But no Catholic should be spiritually scared of demons, and the reason for this is because we know that Jesus is stronger than Satan and all of the demons in Hell.
