MorphRC
the RSV is a very good study bible, 'tis the one that i'd like to use if i had money to get a new Bible. NAB's are good for me at the time-being, but in the apologetics class i'm in, the teacher highly reccommended checkin out an RSV-CE. Peace, and God Bless ya! ~rebirth
No NAB. The Rendering for the OT is Good. The NT is Good, minus Luke! 'Favoured One' is in their, ** Thanks to Interfaith-Translation **. DONT GET THE NAB - WARNING! ! !

mmmerf
The notes in the NJB are incredibly helpful. I remember reading about the blood&water coming from the side of Christ at the crucifixion, and reading that this could be an allusion to the sacraments of Baptism and The Eucharist, but also other ways of looking at it. It is a really helpful commentary. I also like the way the psalms are written. I was given one for my confirmation (goodness - 18 years ago now) but it was stolen out of my car a few years back. So if anyone found a beat-up leatherbout NJB in the past few years, Check and see if there's a note from 1986 in the front. If so, It's mine! GIMME! Ahem. Sorry. That's all. curtins
Protestant? I'm not that sure he qualifies as christian.. Bear in mind the Archbishop speaks for the communion here but he is a titular head unlike the Pope's position in the Catholic Church. Of the list you gave, the RSV-CE would be the better. Incidentally, the RSV itself is Anglican so meh
that was sarcasim buddy

P3chrmd
I have an NAB, and was considering buying another translation but don't know what to get, I am leaning toward, Douay-Rheims or Jerusalem but I thought I would see what you all think.
OK...DEFINETLEY get The Jerusalem Bible...absoutley the best most awsome translation there is! Psalm 23:1-3 Yahweh is my shepherd, I lack nothing In medows of green grass he lets me lie. To the waters of repose he leads me; there he revives my soul. He guides me by paths of virtue for the sake of his name. SO POETIC! YOU CANT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT!
MorphRC
Yahweh doesnt actually appear in the manuscripts as often as the JB renders. Its Adonai = Lord. Although its nice, its incorrect. I cant remember what they call that rendering, not paraphrasing, or literal.
Norseman82
You can probably get a DRB at a used bookstore.
If you are trying to save money, you can always look it up online. It is available at www.awmach.org.
luciana
The RSV-CE is the most accurate translation. It all depends on how much money you have to spend. If you can afford it and want to do some serious study, start buying the Navarre Bible [it comes in separate volumes]. If you like Scot Hahn and love details, start buying the St Ignatius Study Bibles. I has amazingly good footnotes.
^^ ditto I have the Douay, too. It's very poeticand DRV is the only Bible that has 'Full of Grace' for Luke 1:28.
