Guest Desrosiers
Does a Sunday afternoon Mass - such as a special Mass to celebrate a church's anniversary - have to use the readings of the day to satisfy the Sunday obligation? Or will any readings (perhaps chosen to be important to the history of the parish/event), be sufficient?
phatcatholic
The Mass just has to be validly celebrated, and celebrated on Sat. evening or Sunday, in order for it to fulfill your Sunday obligation. Incorrect readings for the Liturgy of the Word do not invalidate a Mass, so your obligation was fulfilled. In order for Mass to be valid, it simply has to be celebrated by a priest validly ordained, and the Eucharist has to be consecrated with proper matter and form.
