Vote a poltician out?

Watching a documentary on Greece.  At one stage in early Athens, the people could vote for an ineffective/bad politician.  If there were enough votes for the same politician, that politician was out of the formal political arena for 10 years.  I thought that we could sure use something like that today.

Your opinion?
