PedroX
Hey folks, just so you know. Party platforms are updated every four years at the national conventions, so in truth the 2000 platforms are still valid as neither party has held their convention yet. peace... BurkeFan
Than I ask you to reexamion your faith Al. Read teh Church in the Modern World (part of Vatican II). Read up on Catholic social teachings. Like, welfare. Removal of 3rd world debts. Seeking an end to the DP in a timly manner. The Church, your faith, is more in line with the most liberal democart than a neo con GOP when you stack the issues up. In fact the only issue that the democarts don't as a majority agree on with the Church is abortion. But than again 49% of Republicans support abortion whenever and whereever. So I wouldn't hype up the GOP pro life (really anti abortion) platform. And I think it was Anna (sp?) on the 1st page who posted the platforms. Those are the 2000 election ones. Are the 'o4 ones out yet?
Can you provide stats that say that 49% of the GOP is as pro-abortion as the most radical people in planned parenthood? And, CST goes far, far, far beyond welfare, removal of third world debts, and ending the death penalty. It's a complete prescription for the proper ordering of society, starting with the family as the primary unit. In that, I think, the Democrats are radically opposed to Catholic Social Teaching. And, in addition to abortion, one could list gay marriage, special protection for homosexual activity, stem cell research, support for X-rated sex-ed courses, etc. Democrats have more failings then abortion. But to say that is not to say that Republicans are angels, for many are not, I think.
IcePrincessKRS
Katie, those quotes from the links your mum posted are from the 2000 election. Kinda out of date (may not have changed but nonetheless out of date). Find the '04 platforms.
I know, I also said a couple posts later that the dem. website said that the 2004 platforms would be out in July but that I doubt the abortion stance will be changed. Thanks for pointing that out. Also, see my other post above if any of you are wondering where the 2004 platforms are. Not out until sometime in JULY, still at least a couple weeks off probably. IcePrincessKRS
The most recent platform is from the 2000 Convention in Los Angeles. Work is progressing on the 2004 Platform, which will be released during the 2004 Convention in Boston in July.
http://www.democrats.org/about/platform.html
