Luigi
From the Trappist nuns at Santa Rita abbey in Sonoita, Arizona: "Santa Rita Abbey 13 hrs · WEDNESDAY'S WISDOM We do not have a quote for you this week. We are focused on the Sawmill fire which has burned clear across the Sonoita valley, west to east. Before sunrise early today, we could see the flames have reached the foothills of the Whetstone Mountains. Winds are predicted to be bad again today which can only spread the fire further. Please join us in prayer for the safety of all in its path--residents & their animals, as well as all the fire fighters. Later today, we'll have a few photos to share with you. The fire began around noon on Sunday [04-23-17]. Sunday and Monday we watched planes with slurry fly over us to reach the fire. Monday around 5:00 p.m. we were evacuated, but we able to return Tuesday 8:00 a.m. We are all safe here at the abbey. The fire did not come onto our property." Thank God they're alright! Luigi
And from the Trappist (in transition to Cistercian) monastery in Ava, MO, a similar story from their March '17 news update: The unusually mild and dry days of March were ripe for woods fires. One Friday evening we scrambled out with rakes and shovels for a fire coming downhill towards a roadside hermitage. Then, the next Sunday morning and afternoon we fought a fire coming uphill toward the same building. The wind was blowing in the opposite direction each day. There were fires on the road near Nazareth Hermitage those same two days. Our local volunteer fire departments came to battle those fires and others that weekend.
