theculturewarrior
I would say the world is in worse shape than it's ever been. That is the trend it seems, anyway. I just keep thinking, for all the past evils, not much trumps abortion.
cathgirl
Archbishop Sheen said the difference between now and the past is back in the day, bad men KNEW they were bad.
That's so true! But at the same time, there have been other times in history where there has been a lot of sinning, I just think the sinning that we do now can affect a lot more pple. Lil Red
like i said, i think sometimes we overreact to how things are. not that i'm saying we shouldn't do our best to uphold a higher standard, but sometimes people are taking stuff too seriously
curtins
I think like there are diff ways that society is sinful like it used to be slavary and descrimination- now its porno and abortion. but i dont think society today is too cared about morals- unfortunatly in fact i really dont like society cuz they trash sex among other things

Sojourner
I get you, Lil Red ... like we have a bunch of Chicken Littles running around. I once had a Sunday School teacher (fifth or six grade) try to convince me that the world is better now than it used to be. I called him on that one right quick ... I guess I've never seen us as being better or worse than our predecessors. We do have some mechanisms in place that allow mass sin to be promulgated in unprecedented ways, but it seems to me we've always been able to come up with ways of doing horrible things to one another on a large scale. OwNeD_byGoD
i understand what you guys are saying abut cycles but like, also there is the fact that with time, more problems are added on, more "topics" are added on, such as... homosexuality it was never really a big topic in the past, it was never really brought up, but now at this time it is one of our most frequent problems... sometimes this world seems like... bah hopeless? but then i have hope in God, but kus like remember noah's time how bad it got? thats how bad i think this time will get sometimes esp with media being so important now... my 2 cents
Thy Geekdom Come
homosexuality it was never really a big topic in the past, it was never really brought up, but now at this time it is one of our most frequent problems...
No, it has gotten worse, but even homosexual unions were a subject of controversy. The ancient lesbian poet Sappho advanced sado-massacism and Catullus echoed her (although he was more likely bisexual, since he had love affairs with a woman named Claudia). Pedophilia in ancient times was common and accepted by most people, but others were widely against it. Land redistribution was made popular by the Gracchi brothers. Infancide was considered legitimate. Sexual promiscuity was ubiquitous, war was common, and even then the Populares (analogous to Democrats) fought it out with the Populares (analogous to Republicans). The struggles we fight are continuing, I think, and are as widespread as before, but now we have media to publicize them and the world seems like a smaller place, so all these things hit home with more force.
