blackiron1
Hello: I enjoy the Midwest Catholic Family Conference every year so I thought I would post this little blurb here. It is coming up again Aug 4 thru 6, 2017, Wichita KS. http://www.catholicfamilyconference.org God Bless Edited April 9, 2017 by blackiron1 Add information
PhuturePriest
I've gone to the Midwest Catholic Family Conference every year of my life since I was three. I'd quite honestly rather miss Christmas than the Conference. If anyone is in the area and can go, I really recommend it. There's no other Catholic conference quite like it. What's wrong with that? It's not like they're giving a talk. The speakers are always solid. The entertainment is usually Catholic, but there's nothing particularly wrong about having a Protestant band play innocuous Christian music. havok579257
nothing inherently wrong with it, just confusing why they would not have a catholic band and instead choose a protestant band.

Plenty of reasons. This is their seventeenth year and they've had tons of different Catholic acts, and this is a much bigger band in the Christian world so it will attract more people to the event. In the end, this is an exorbitantly expensive event to put on, and a big band in the Christian world that happens to be protestant will bring in more people than Catholic Joe and his harmonica down the street. It's not all about money, of course, which is why their speakers are always Catholic. But entertainment doesn't matter quite so much.
Luigi
These kinds of events are also perfect for some ecumenical outreach. Non-Catholics who attend Mass can't receive communion; Catholics can attend other Christian services, but it's not the same as Mass (with one or two exceptions). But a family life conference, or a prayer service that's topic-focused, are perfect. Why not be a little bit inclusive and maybe build a bridge or two?
