Praise Fest

So, I attend one of the more "traditional" Novus Ordo parishes in my diocese. The instruments include primarily an organ, and rarely a piano.

With that said, I'm assuming there still is a faction within my parish who have requested that more "modern" praise and worship music  be incorporated (I still don't know why people consider mediocre 70's era folk music "modern", but I digress).

So, our priests have approved a once a month "praise fest". It takes place inside the church on a Sunday night, once a month. It is not a mass, so any Catholic who attends would be expected to attend mass earlier in the day.

Good compromise? Discuss.

Credo in Deum

I don't see a problem with it provided:

1.) Priest is present to supervise.

2.) The music selection is in good taste, for what it is.

3.) They conduct themselves in a manner which takes into account that the Church is the house of God and not a concert hall.

4.) Maybe change the name of the event so it doesn't sound like a hippie spiritual convention.

I don't see why it would be problematic. I do think the name suggests something a bit more raucous than perhaps would be appropriate, but I don't see the fundamental problem with holding a praise session in the sanctuary.

I forgot to mention that part of the "praise fest" is adoration--and also, something that is put on through the youth organization. I really ought to go to one to judge for myself. lol

I would guess that the name is based off or related to a similar sort of event that we had at Franciscan University, "Festivals of Praise." These events I think were an outgrowth of various events that would take place in the Charismatic Renewal.

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea. As should surprise no one, I lean more traditional these days. However, these sort of events were very formative for me when I was first becoming serious about my faith, and I believe that if done well can be beneficial.

That's actually exactly what it's called. my bad. "Festival of Praise". And yes, the priest did mention it came from Franciscan University.
