Mother chooses baby's life over her own

Ms Schram will have surgery to remove her stomach in a little over a month.

The eight-hour procedure will follow a risky inducement, where she will deliver her newborn baby via caesarean section at 32 weeks.

Ms Schram will also have gastrointestinal surgery, where doctors will attach her oesophagus to her intestine.

She will spend several days in hospital on a strictly limited fluid diet but is expected to make a full recovery.

“Apparently you can live a normal life (without a stomach), it’s just about adjusting what you eat,” Ms Schram said.

Once she is recovered, she will have a double mastectomy in a preventive measure to ensure she is cancer free......"..........
