Cesar624
Paladin, from one person born in 87 to the other...THE 80s WAS THE BEST ERA IN MUSIC EVER! I always listen to it, I think it's great. One of the most popular types of 80s music here in NYC was Freestyle. The artists who sung Freestyle were mainly Nuyoricans, and it's making a comeback today. I don't usually find many people outside of NYC and Chicago that know what Freestyle is - REAL Freestyle, not like free rapping (even though Freestyle was sometimes considered "Latin Hip-Hop" in the 80s). Look into it, the beats are unique and the lyrics are pretty cool. It always happens to get me and my friends pretty hyped. Cesar
Kilroy the Ninja
Speaking of cars, who here likes Gary Newman's "In Cars"? Good song. What about "Mr. Roboto," by Styx? That song is so cheesy. I think this song needs to be the theme song from the 80s! LOL. God bless, Jennifer
Cars is one of my personal faves... but.. so is.... Mr. Roboto... cheesy? but, but,...... it's about..... kilroy....... sniff.... I love it so much, I've got countless mixed taped and cd's of all the classic 80's freestyle songs. I'm not crazy about the new freestyle coming out now though. But if you walk through Bensonhurst, you're guaranteed to hear someone pumping good old Judy Torres, TKA, Cover Girls, Noel and all the other freestyle greats. Does anyone besides Cesar and I know of these freestyle artists?

Does anyone besides Cesar and I know of these freestyle artists?
I do!!! I do!!! I used to love the Cover Girls! Their song "Funk Boutique" was one of my favorites! "Come on down to the funk boutique / Try on a groove with a funky rhythm!" But their slow songs like "We Can't Go Wrong," "Wishing On A Star," and "Thank You" are also cool. I know who Judy Torres is, but I don't remember any of her songs. TKA sang "I'll Be Loving You," didn't they? And isn't that the group where rapper K7 came from? And Noel ... I haven't heard "Silent Morning" since I was in 7th grade or so, and that was in 1987-88! But when I think of freestyle, Expose' comes to mind! I was obsessed with them the way many young girls during that time were obsessed with New Kids on the Block!
Carrie
Judy Torres sang "No Reason to Cry." She only had one album out...I suggest you pick it up because it's incredible from beginning to end. She's now a DJ for a radio station here that plays freestyle and disco music. She's coming out with a new cd this year and I can't wait. TKA is awesome too... their big hit was "Maria" and they also had "X-Ray Love" and "Louder Than Love." Their greatest hits cd rocks! I can dance to it all day. The lead singer from K-7 is the same guy, but K-&'s music wasn't all that great. Lyrically, he went downhill with that group...all he sang about in K-7 was immoral stuff. The Cover Girls are amazing too. "Wishing on a Star" was one of my favorites. I saw them live about a year ago and they are still as amazing as they used to be. I've got a pic with them and their autograph. Very sweet ladies. "Silent Morning" by Noel was great! A one hit wonder no doubt, but awesome just the same. Let's not forget Cynthia and Johnny with the original..."Dream Boy, Dream Girl" Lizette Melendez was good too. Man, I could go on and on.
