Our Lady of the Roses/Bayside Supporters

I've run into a few very adament supporters of the Bayside apparitions and know that they are forbidden/not real. Why are they so insistent (What is the draw?). Also, what does supporting the apparitions 'make' you? Irregular? Heretical seems too strong at first blush. 

I guess I'm confused because  they are so strong about it, and the uncle of someone I deeply respect is in charge of the 'estate'. Thank you!
