Looking for a devotional book

I have a close Muslim friend who is coming to stay with my family for Christmas. She's a big fan of Jesus, based on the Islamic stories about him and the times she's been with me to Mass. I'd like to get her a devotional book as Christmas gift. I think a full Bible or New Testament would be a bit difficult for her to get into, but something that focuses just on the words and life of Jesus would probably interest her very much. I'm looking for a book that has a Gospel reading for each day of the year with a reflection, or something similar. The problem is that I can't find a suitable book - they're either very evangelical Protestant, very cheesy, or they presume far too much prior Christian knowledge. Can anyone suggest anything?

It might be a bit off but God Calling?  The CFR's recommended it or me years ago.  It has sort of prayer/reflections and the option to look up the scripture that it inspired.

I know I know of a book that is *exactly* what you're talking about, but I can't find it right now. :( In the meantime, as I was going through my library briefly I found He Shall Be Peace by Jennifer Franks, which is more about the early life of Jesus but maybe she would be interested in that? I also thought possibly Bountiful Goodness by Kempis which is similar to the Imitation, in that it is meant to be a meditation book. A little excerpt from the description:

Quote

"The aim of these works is to draw the reader to a closer union with Jesus. While Imitation sets forth the principles of discipleship, the two works in this volume offer more practical advice. They treat of the virtues needed to advance toward God."

I hope you find something, beatitude! (:

Thank you for the suggestions. :)In the end I found this little book, My Daily Gospel 2017. I would have preferred the readings to be undated, to make it more timeless, but this is the closest thing I could get to what I was looking for - centred entirely on the Gospels with some good reflections.
