Guest
When Trump says "Make America Great Again" he's talking way after this time period right? Edited November 28, 2016 by Guest
Peace
Good question. It's tough to point to any point in American history where we can say that America was great. Edited November 28, 2016 by Peace
Anomaly
As a member of a multinational, multicultural, multiracial, multiethnic family, I don't have to look far for first hand accounts of living in other countries. I would be quick to say the United States of America is a great country. Perfect...? Not at all! Many, many, things need improvement. But to dismiss real accomplishments inherent to this country and citizens, is inaccurate, unnecessarily pessimistic, and counter-productive. Guest
I'm grateful to live in America. I've had a lot of opportunities. But from watching this video it's clearly evident America wasn't "great" in 1965. At least not for Jimmy Webb. I definitely wouldn't want to live anywhere else though and I'm thankful for the men and women who fought and died and still do to give us that freedom. I'm thankful how far America has come since 1965. That's why I'm very curious what exact time frame Trump is talking about when he says "Make American Great Again." Well as a person of African descent I would say that I much rather prefer the America of 2015 as compared to 1965 or 1865. I have lived overseas for 5+ years and traveled to over 20+ countries. I think the US has many good things about it and bad things about it, just like every other country. I love the US because it is my home, but I can't say that it ever occurred to me that the US was better than Canada or any other place, but perhaps I would feel differently if I had visited North Korea or some other places like that. In your view, what makes America a great country as compared to the rest of the world? For example, you and @dominicansoul seem to believe that abortion is an extremely important, if not the most important issue that a society faces. Would you not consider places such as Africa with very restrictive abortion laws to be greater than America?

But restrictions on freedom of speech, association, movement, religion are generally significantly worse than the US. I wouldn't want anyone to be a child in Dakar, but that would be better than tissue in a surgical disposal container. Based on your experience, is Cuba under the Castros with his efforts for education and healthcare and seemingly race, outweigh the infringements on other freedoms? Is Cuba better than the USA? dominicansoul
When Trump says "Make America Great Again" he is referring to all the damage done during Obama's administration. He may not be the one to talk, but he meant we needed to clear out all the corrupt career politicians and end their control because the corruption seeps into the way America is being run and we are not getting the best from our leaders. He's not a politician but a business man. He's coming from the outside, not the inside. These were things he wanted to capitalize on in his campaign, so that slogan became his mantra. Guest
I think America has had times of greatness, two which come immediately to mind is their effect on WW2 and and the other was President John Kennedy - there are more I know, no time to Google. I have to water the garden, it has been a very warm day here. As an Australian, I have noticed that we do tend to follow the USA for good or ill. I am grateful for the USA, very grateful. I didn't like Donald Trump during the campaign including as potential President - frankly it scared me. Now he is President Elect, I'm putting that aside and hoping he will really and truly surprise me and perhaps the USA can have its time of notable greatness yet again. A country can be like a human being: a mixture of sinner and saint - and some have outstanding times of saintliness of note. On the vv side, others are more like me. Prayer for the President Elect of the USA.
