I think I am the only person in the U.S. (or at least the Midwest) who prefers mince pie to pumpkin pie. (Don't get me wrong--I like pumpkin pie--although I am not supposed to eat it.) It's very difficult to find mince pie even in a large city like Chicago. Yes, I could make mince pie, but then I'd eat it, and I'm not supposed to eat pie at all. (The crust is full of fat and calories, but it's the best part if made well.)

Blame my English grandmother for this culinary peculiarity. Also, my sister (yes, the same one who is always mad at me), nonetheless makes the best mince pie I have ever tasted. Almost makes the yelling worth it. Almost.

My dad is diabetic so we've been eating no flavor pumpkin pie most our lives.  And the weird thing is...we all like it that way....

@IgnatiusofLoyola  my mom still makes mincemeat pie.   it's fantastic.  Especially warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

If course, since my mom makes it only around the holidays, it always ranks as one of the best pies I've ever had so far in my life.

Had many new foods again this year.  My TG tip...  have a little of everything, seconds of the favorites, thirds of the best favorites. Waiting politely for others is for vegans and the dieters.
