Thy Geekdom Come
Evil implies intent for evil, which means that the guy intended to do wrong. I really don't think that was his intent, but it doesn't make it right.
No, evil is any bad thing. Sin implies intent for evil. We can't judge whether it was sin or not, but we can certainly call it evil.
jasJis
I beg to differ, Raph. I am refering to the common understanding of people. To say that some one acted evil, pretty much is saying they intended to do something bad. We can sin without intending to do bad. Our intentions will only absolve some of the guilt. Crusader_4
Just to simplify things it was me that did this. For which i am truly sorry and have sent a response. My rage and looking for vengeance got ahead of my rational. However, with that being said lets turn this into a more proactive thread what would be some good respeonse in case i am in this situation again (which i am sure i might be). jasJis
Ask why they would say that and what do they mean. Many people will have negative opinions about stuff without really thinking too much about it. When you simply ask them to explain, and ask the questions, you get them to think about it. They usually don't change their mind right then, but it gets their mind working and thinking about ti and often they change their minds later on. Crusader_4
I actually found that joke rather funny. Also would it be considered a sin do you think and in need of confession?
jasJis
I actually found that joke rather funny. Also would it be considered a sin do you think and in need of confession?
Yeah, why not? Confession is only part of the Sacrament of Reconcilliation. You aren't/weren't happy with yourself and want to do better. Confession and absolution can clear the slate, and you are opening yourself up to Grace to help you change yourself to be more Christlike in a similar situation. Never fear confession.
Only mortal sins prevent you from receiving communion. You are aware of the 3 standards for a sin to be mortal, right? I don't think this situation applies, but you would know better than I. Crusader_4
I am pretty sure it doesnt: I didnt have the intent to sin...(my intention was not to sin) I dont think it was a grave matter either.
jasJis
So you're cool. Go to mass. If it's still bugging you a little, get to mass early and see if the preist has a minute to hear your confession. (They usually do.) edit to add: Most people mistake a guilty conscience for God's desire for you to come closer to Him. (Which is what Reconcilliation is all about.) Crusader_4
Yea one of my priests actually mentioned that we start confession before we get tehre our guilt and such we are already confessing before God before we enter the sacrament.
