little2add
Administrators at DePaul University told the school’s College Republicans group this week they are banned from circulating a pro-life poster that mimics the style and design of the Black Lives Matter logo. The president of the largest Roman Catholic University in America refused a conservative student group's request to post pro-life posters because it would constitute "bigotry ... under the cover of free speech." Despite the fact that "Black Lives Matter" posters hang on the very windows of the administrative offices at Chicago-based DePaul University, President Reverend Dennis H. Holtschneider banned posters reading "Unborn Lives Matter," a message much more in keeping with Catholic teaching on the sanctity of human life, from conception to natural death. Socrates
Anything that's not leftism/liberalism is racism. Didn't you get the memo? 22 hours ago, Gabriela said: If ripping off blacks is racist every white rapper for the last 30 years is a bigot. As were the old-time white rock'n'rollers. And white jazz musicians.
Hna.Caridad
It’s not racism. It’s intellectual property theft. It becomes racist when a person believes that either: a) people of certain racial or ethnic groups can’t or don’t have intellectual property or b) it’s OK to steal intellectual property from some racial or ethnic groups, but not from others. Unfortunately, white people do have a very long history of “ripping off blacks” when it comes to intellectual property—the above posts list some of those examples. Racism is what makes that theft socially acceptable. That being said, regardless of race, I would expect that an institution of higher learning would be very strict in defending intellectual property & I would be extremely suspect of any university that would choose to turn a blind eye when confronted with such a blatant case of plagiarism/theft. If the College Republicans want to start a movement for the unborn, they need to come up with their own slogan & their own symbols--not just steal them from another group. "black lives matter" as a phrase is not a registered or owned trademark and is not an owned intellectual property. If someone represented their publication or speech as being issued from the Black Lives Matter Organization, when they are not associated with or authorized to do so, that is a different matter. As used, "unborn lives matter" is simply identifying persons as also being worthy of societal empathy. No need to go out of ones way to find offense when none was intended.
