Pope overhauls Vatican liturgical congregation

Pope Francis has replaced all of the members of the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship, the body in charge of liturgical questions.

It is routine for the Roman Pontiff to appoint a few new members to each Vatican congregation, rotating out members who have served for several years. But on October 28 the Vatican announced that Pope Francis has appointed 27 new members to the Congregation for Divine Worship, completely transforming the membership of that body.

Interesting..............

Does this include Cardinal Sarah?

As far as I've seen, Cardinal Sarah is still the head of the CDW.

Yes, I was just looking around for more news on this, and read on Rorate that he will remain as head. Their commentary might be of interest to some: http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2016/10/important-congregation-for-divine.html

More commentary: http://www.praytellblog.com/index.php/2016/10/29/press-roundup-reactions-to-yesterdays-liturgy-appointments-by-the-pope/

I actually think it was very tempered commentary from rorate; rather it was some on the CAF that are hysterical today. But I'm more concerned about those who were removed, from the praytell blog: "Of those who were removed yesterday – Scola, Pell, Burke, Erto, Ouellet, Ranjith, Bagnasco."

But +Bishop Marini - really? Slow painful martrydom by tie-dye chausables may be in our future.

Since I'm not on the up-and-up about exactly which bishops are liturgically conservative and which are celebrating homosexual clown "Masses", could someone just sum it up for me: Did he get rid of all/most of the conservatives and replace them with a bunch of liberals?

Wondering the same...

Okay, I read all the articles linked above and it appears he definitely made the congregation more "middle of the road" according to some, more liberal according to others. Basically, he removed (or at least, we're assuming he removed, since the Vatican announcement doesn't say he removed anyone; it just says he added a ton of new people, so people presume he removed some to make room for the new people) all those people who were outspoken conservative liturgists, anyone who talked about or supported a "reform of the reform". And he added a bunch of people who wouldn't support talk of a "reform of the reform", but some of them are known to have celebrated and/or to support the celebration of the TLM. So they're not all raging liberals. They're just not outspoken conservatives like we once had.

Would others agree with this summary?

Archbishop Denis James Hart of Melbourne, Australia  is hardly a liberal. He is known in Australia for his strict adherence to the rubrics and was the Vicar General to George Pell when he was the Archbishop of Melbourne and is the President of the Australian Bishops Conference

Il Dispari reports that Archbishop Piero Marini, longtime papal MC under John Paul II, and more briefly at the beginning of the reign of Pope Benedict XVI, has been admitted to l’Ospedale Anna Rizzoli di Lacco Ameno. In the night between Sunday and Monday he seems to have suffered a stroke, arriving at the hospital Monday morning. His condition is reported to be unstable and he is under close observation. Italian media are already speculating about a transfer on Wednesday to the renowned Gemelli hospital.

Pope Francis just appointed him to the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments this past Friday, along with 26 other bishops.
