Alright, I'm a Cradle Catholic but my family isn't too serious so would someone explain what Miraculous Medals and Scapulars are and why the grout list says they'll help you if you have a heart attack?

p.s. I agree more poeple should invite Priests out to dinner... Theres a more then a billion Catholics - why should Priests and Nuns have to eat alone?

The Brown Scapular carries with it the idea that he who wears it when he dies will not go to hell, because it is that powerful in inspiring prayer, devotion, and sanctity.

There is an old story, legend or not, I don't know, about a young man who wore it and acted terribly. He used it as a ticket to commit whatever sins he wanted and still get to heaven. Well, one day, he felt a burning sensation around his neck, realized that his brown scapular was on fire, tore it off, threw it away from him, and died. Needless to say, the story says that he went to hell.

Well, the idea is that a person who wears it will become a holy person, and lead that person to confess mortal sins. I don't think the scapular in itself has any power to forgive sins...the idea is that it will lead the wearer to holiness if he lives by it.

Sounds good... I hope it helps with Mortal sins though, like in the case where people are Catholic and usually go to confession and honestly believe and try but slip up now and then before going to confession...

Well, if you have mortal sin on you and you're dying, then a truly repentant heart suffices, but you should to go to confession if you are able as soon after committing a mortal sin as possible.

Well, many churches have lines for confession at a scheduled time. When I go to confession, I usually have to stand in a line (praise God).
